Question about 1997 Volvo 960

1 Answer

Low beams suddenly stopped working -1988 Volvo 760 GLE

-Fuses are fine - have even been replaced (just in case)
-bulbs look fine (could only get RH side bulb out, the LH one is "stuck")
-All visible electrical connections are intact.
-running lights work
-high beams work, but strangely, the lever seems to not want to stay on high beam now.
-The light fault warning indicator comes on as soon as you try to turn on the headlamps.

This is a bit of a problem, because I cannot drive my car at night until I fix this.

---
I'm thinking:

-might be that the LB relay has failed. Apparently high and lo beams have separate relays.
-could be an onboard computer problem.

I doubt that the obc is the source of the problem.
More than likely, it's the relays.
They're not easy to remove, until you remove the ashtray housing, which is 4 fixings in total, if I recall correctly.
Good luck.

Right low beam stopped working, where is the ground wire run to check that

Do the high beams work?

The ground point is on the apron ( the inside of the fender, just behind the headlight). There is one on each side. From the wiring diagram, there is just a splice connecting power to the lights in parallel for the high and low beams, but the grounds are separate.

If the RH high beam and the LH low beam works, then it is not a ground problem. You could just tap the LH wires to power the RH, but I think that if you look closely the connector for the bulb is probably melted. If that is the case then you will have to splice on a new connector.

The colors are as follows:

RH --> low beam power ( light blue)
LH --> low beam power (white OR light blue)
BOTH high beams --> ( red/white stripe)
Ground --> Black

Sorry, The diagram is too large a file to upload.

I have a 1999 Corolla, and both headlights suddenly stopped working. The low beams don't work, but the high beams do. The fuses are fine.

low beam is a bulb on its own, usually under the big main bulb.the main big bulb works your normal night time driving and your high beam,ie.flashers.if 1 low beam has blown its more than likley a power serge blown the other side as they run off the same wiring.hope this helps.

Low beam head lights not working - The low beams, both stopped working. The high beams work fine. I checked the fuses and all 4 are good. I even swapped the low and high beam fises just in case. No...

if the fuses are good then you need to check for power and ground at the headlight plug that attaches to the headlight bulb if you have a good power and ground there and the connections are good then the bulbs are both no good.or if you can tell the bulbs are burnt out by looking at them then you don`t have to check powers and grounds.you also can directly feed power and ground to the bulb and check both the terminals for high beam and low beam as you cannot tell which is which by looking at the terminals

i think im right in saying the low beam bulbs are twin filament(low and high beam in one)and the main/high beam are single filament(spotlights).

Replacing headlights on a 1988 760

Replaceable Bulb 1985–89 200 SERIES AND 1987–89 700 SERIES
  1. Make sure the headlights are off and the ignition is OFF.
  2. Working from under the hood, release the clip and remove the wire connector from the back of the lamp assembly.
  3. Unscrew and remove the large locking ring on the back of the headlamp.
  4. Remove the bulb and its holder; replace them as a unit WARNING
When installing new bulbs, never touch the glass bulb with your fingers. The grease will develop a hot spot on the bulb and radically shorten its life.
  5. When reinstalling, make sure that the bulb sits properly in the reflector assembly. Tighten the locking ring and reattach the wiring connector.

Low beam headlights not working on 2004 Pontiac Montana extended

You headlight lamp have a diffuser mechanism which allows it to flip between the hight beam and low beam feature of the bulb. In fact, you high beam will function even if the low beam is not working.

I would recommend the purchase of the new headlight lamp. It would cost you you any where from $15.00 per unit to get a replacement lamp
