Question about 1986 Ford F 250

1 Answer

My 90 ford f250 runs on front tank but wont pull fuel from rear

The problem started a few months ago when the rear tank had to be at least a quarter full for the truck to start pulling fuel. Now with a full tank it will not run off the rear tank. If I switch anytime running or starting it either will not start untill I switch to the front tank or it will die if on the rear tank.

1997 F250 with dual fuel tanks. Fuel from the rear tank siphons into the front tank. When I try using the front tank the engine cuts out under load. Also truck wont start using the front tank

If fuel injected. the tank selector valve switches both the suction line from the tank and the return line back to the tank. It sounds like you have a stuck or bad tank selector valve if the return is not being ported back to the rear tank.

it may have a seperate pump for the seprate tanks im not sure. it acts to me like its running thaose few miles on fuel left in lines from the back tank. i would start by selcting the frount tank when you put it to bed one night, then in morning have some one turn the key while you listen for a fuel pump if i didnt hera one i would start there. if i heard one check for a seperate fuel filter for the frount tank then check for pluged lines between the two tanks. it has to be someting simple. good luck.

the switching valve has gone bad forgot exactly what ford called it but it might be tank isolater what is does is block which ever tank that is not in use to prevent what is happening to you the valve is stuck in neutral position causing no restriction liquid follows path of least resistance cut front tank on pump pushes fuel out gets to valve and instead of going to engine and building pressure it just runs over in the rear tank path of least resistance this valve should be frame mounted some where between tanks have seen on rear crossmember to
