On my 98 chrylser sebring coupe i replaced the distributor and it first act like it wanted to start but now a clicking noise will not start what next.

THE CLICK IS THE STARTER SOLENOID, ALL THE CRANKING HAS BURNED THE CONTACTS, REPLACE THE SOLENOID, IT IS MOUNTED ON THE STARTER.

Its too late to know if the distributor was in the right place to start with. So we will start from square one.
If the distributor really is off, one of the camshafts is not on the right tooth.
But you should also take a close look at the inside of the distributor cap. The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6 but that is not the way the plug wires go on the cap. The actual point the rotor fires a plug wire may not be the same on the inside as it looks on the outside.

you really should get the pump and tensioner done too, if the water pump goes it will destroy the belt.
a 2.4 at the dealership is probably about $350 +

I have a 2007 chrysler sebring and it doesnt want to go into reverse or drive. its just staying in park.

check your timing belt and make sure the timing is on right

check the cable at ecm if it is pulled to tight up or down this will put stress on the pins and result in a car that runs like it needs a tuneup
