2004 Pacifica Noise When Braking

I have a 04 Pacifica and when I brake,it makes the same sound an old stair case makes when someone walks on it. Any ideas? I already jacked it up and nothing seems loos. I am preparing to replace CV joints/boots (inner and outer).

Thanks Polygon. I have tried it in park and it does not make any sound. Only while in motion. Another note, it seems to get louder as the more force is needed to slow the car down. Very loud in the cabin but doesn't seem to be so much from the outside.

Try doing it in park to make sure it does not do it while you're in motion. The first thing I'd do is re grease the caliper.

Well, there are three things I can think of.

    1. You have a sliding caliper and I would start by re-greasing it.
    2. If that doesn't work you might have to lubricate the seal between the piston and the boot in the caliper.
    3. If that isn't the cause then I would suspect caliper flexing.

What would be causing a noise in the front end that sounds like someone hitting can when braking & going over bumps?

Sounds like the wheel is touching something when the nose goes down a bit. I had a similar problem and found it was the stone guard under the front fender

Creaking sound

If it is really cold then the rubber insulators that are between the sub-frame and the body may be a bit loose and allowing movement. It may be worn / hard suspension rubbers squeaking under acceleration. Check the whole of the front of the car looking for rusted areas in the body and sub-frame that may be allowing body movement where there should be none.

When driving my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee it sounds like I am dragging a bunch of chains behind me.

Hello,

The first step is to find where the sound is coming from. I do know from my own experiences that it can be frustrating.

Have someone walk beside the Jeep as you drive it (slow) if the noise is only audible at speed this cant be done unless you have a friend that can run very fast >:)

My fist guess would be brake issues, if you have rear disks the parking brake is inside the rotor hat, when that stuff gos it will sound like what your describing.

Check your fluids, rear axle, Transfer case (if equipped), transmission, make sure your not dragging anything, check your exhaust, as well make sure you use the correct fluids, the transfer case needs a Jeep fluid if equipped with a full time 4x4 feature! You can and will ruin your Jeep with the wrong fluid!!!

All said it might easy to just have a garage check out the noise.

Hope this helps!

My chrysler pacifica has motor mount problems. I bought a 2004 pacifica and every time I stop hard you hear this popping, the mechanic said he repaired it but it still makes the popping sound

check if the struts are mounted well because sometime when they lose that rubber top They keep the car do that popping. Jack the car side by side or both and and try to shake the wheel with your hands while you're looking at the struts on top and see if there is any paly. Do that on both sides if they are ok, then check again your Motor mounts.

Will clunk hard when accelerating slowly, and then

Is the clunk noticed as soon as the brake pedal is released? Your brake shoes engage in the rear drum when the brake pedal is pressed and then release as the brake pedal is released. Your shoes may be worn and might be "hanging up" for a brief period, that would make a clunk sound your describing

My 05 xc 90 d5 is making a clunking noise when accelerating after decelerating

It sounds like it may be something to do with the engine mounts. I had a similiar problem with my 04 d5 and it was down to 2 of the mounts wearing. They have a rubber damper for vibration which can wear out and then the engine moves slightly when its under load and when braking. Best to get it checked out although it sounds a lot worse than it actually is. Apparently the mounts I had fitted were a revised version which are more suited to the job.

Steering wheel moves back and forth when i brake 2004 ion

Sounds like your rotors are warped. First off, have the front wheels been off the car at any time recently? If so, someone may have reinstalled them and not torqued the lugs properly. Too much torque (or different torque on different lug nuts) can artifically warp the rotors. Also, hot rotors getting wet can warp (as if you slammed the brakes on or were braking severely on the way to the car wash, where you sprayed them down). Or, they could be just worn out. Chances are though that you'll need new rotors. Remember that when you change rotors, no matter how new the pads on your car may be, you need to put new brake pads on with them.
