There is a tentioner pulley that you can stick the head of a 3/8in. drive rachet into and turn it like your trying to loosen it, it should give you some slack, the whole bracket will shift when you apply pressure.

Disconnect the top radiator hose from the radiator to provide more room. Use a breaker bar over the ratchet (pvc even works)---pull the bar all the way to the left for maximum slack reduction. Fold the belt in half and start on the 2 large pulleys on the right side....very easy once you've don it once.

My car keep on breaks alternator belts and it also makes this loud whistling noise. I've put on a new water pump, 3 alternators and several alternator belts

make sure that the pulleys of all the driven equipment are in alignment and not at a bit of an angle to the axis of the drive belt
To break belts something is not lined up properly or something is not turning freely

HOW DO I REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR BELT ON 2004 ELANTRA

As long as you have BOTH alternator bolts loose, you just "pry" it until the belt is tight.
I say "pry" but of course you dont want to be TOO rough with your alternator! They dont have an actual tensioner!
Good luck

How do I change a alternador in my 1999 plymoth Breeze 2.0

1 remove battery cables from battery 2 disconnect wires from alternator 3 loosen belt with the belt tensioner it will probly take a 3/8 drive ratchet to loosen the tensioner by putting the end that normaly goes into socket into a square hole in tensioner( just move tensioner far enough to slip belt off alternator pully) 4 remove bolts from alternator 5 put new alternator in place and put bolts in 6 put belt back over pulley 7 plug wires back on alternator 8 reconnect battery

How to change a alternator on 98 honda accord v6, 3.0

Shut off engine and let it cool down. Remove the alternator bolts. This will loosen belt and allow you to remove alternator. Disconnect and label wires. Have a helper help you install new alternator while tightening belt. You need about 1/8 inch slack on the belt. You can purchase a belt tension tool to help you measure. Tighten alternator bolts and plug wires. Turn on engine and check that battery holding steady voltage.

on some models the belt ran around both if you do not have the old belt get a piece of string and wrap it around the pulleys for the alternator. have the alternator set about halfway on the adjustment bracket. two bolts hold the alternator one on the bottom and one on the top loosen both up enough to allow you to move the alternator but the belt on and rotate the alternator until tight enough you can't push it down more than a 1/4 of an inch.

My car is a VW golf Gti mk3 8v 2.0L, Alternator / water pump drive belt has snapped and been lost. I have new belt but I'm unsure of routing around the 3 pulleys. does the alternator act as the tensioner??

loosen the alternator and push the alternator to-wards the engine, put your new belt on ,fitting around the 3 pulleys once fitted look and see that the belt is in line.If your happy the belt is lined put a small bar between the engine and alternator and force the alternator out towards the front this should tension your belt tighten bolts on alternator.;at the longest point between two pullys in the middle of the belt move belt up and down with fingers if tension is right it should not move more than about 150ml,hope this helps you.adrian
