Altinator dose not charge when battry is low

I have a Toyota land cruser 1987 model with a 6 cylinder deasel engine. The trouble is that when the battrey goes low the altinator dose not chage when I put the battrey on a charger and it has a full charge the amp guage ahows the car is charging then several weeks latr as the battrey runs down and the battrey starts to die the dash lights lite up and show the battrey is going out and the guage shows the battrey is not charging but discharging and I have to give it a external charge allover again

Check your temperature gauge, does it get up around half way, or does it barely get above cold? If the thermostat is stuck open, then the glow rail controller will keep the glow plug rail turned on due to the engine remaining cold. Over time, especially in cold weather or headlight driving, the altinater will not be able to keep up with demand and the battery will eventually end up flat. If the temperature gauge stays cold, then check / replace the thermostat.

Time for another battery. Have a load test done on battery. Then have someone fullfield the alternator to see if its operating correctly

Idle problem


what engine? # cylinders , displacement.????????????

ok, the EFI is in charge of idle speed at all times.

low speed ,usually means the EGR is stuck wide open

the main valve. clean it ever 50k and no more.

ill list some other common, ways, (not guessing, i do tests)

1: EGR stuck.

2: someone set the ignition timing way retarded

3: the cam timing is way retarded. (zero service caused)

4: flooding,

5: starving for fuel.

6: ISC valve stuck closed.

7: horrid need of a basic tuneup. 60k mile full service scheduled parts.

fault in airbag b1181 air bag light

Ihawe toyota land cruser vx 4.2 turbo diesel and Ihave problem only one batery is charged


Most likely, the second battery is incapable of taking a charge and needs replacement, or the connections to your teminals(all four) have to be removed and cleaned. Thanks, Dana

Keeping truck charged


remove batt neg cable, and bridge it with a test light , if the light is bright you have a draw, pull each fust individually to locate live circuit

My toyota land cruser is poor to start first thing espesialy when its cold , I have replaced the glow plugs and fuel fillter


didyou replace the manifold heater?
have you checked the relay?have you checked to see if there is actualy power getting to the glow plugs? and also the fuse .
It is very srtange ,if the glow plugs are working ,for it not to fire up straightaway .Does it miss when it does first start?If so, the glow plugs are not all working.Last thing try giving it a squirt of aero start, or starter fluid , if with that ,if it doesn`t start straight away, then you better come back to me as i have another idea what could be a problem but I dont think the glow plugs are working properly so try the aero start first "youdoit"

Timing Dpecs for Toyota Supra 87 6 cylinder


1987 non-turbo: 10 deg Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) @700 rpm
1987 Turbo: 10 deg BTDC @650 rpm.

To set the timing, you will need to connect a jumper wire between terminals E1 and TE1 on the diagnostic terminal. This diagnostic terminal is located just aft of the engine compartment fuse box. It is a black plastic box marked "diagnostic" on the cover, which flips open to reveal the terminals inside. There is a diagram on the inside of the cover which explains the terminal positions. On the Turbo model, you need to remove the forward section of the engine cover to gain access to the number one spark plug wire.
