Why is my heated auto dimming driver side and rear view mirror getting dark when driving

Look in the fuse box for the fuse it will likely have other things on it but nothing to high voltage .
Pull the fuse and see what happens .
Honestly I have never heard of this .
Unless the mirrors lit or damaged somehow from to much heat damaging the coating on the back of the glass making it not a mirror any more .
This sounds like a factory defect

Where to add side mirrors on a 58 ford Fairlane

I've had the same quandary with my 59 Ford Custom 300 and the more of them I've looked at, the more I've noticed it seems to be personal preference. Mine are currently positioned just to the side of dead center on the top and directly across from the hood cowl side to side. I've seen some positioned on the fender just ahead of the doors or even on the doors to about a third of the way down the fender. I'm getting ready to move mine rearward, I like the look. It's all your vision, my friend. Good luck!

Side Mirrors will adjust side to side but not up and down.

There are two tiny motors in each mirror. one for up/down. One for side to side. They have jack screws (plastic) that fit into the motors.

You can manually put your hands on either side of the mirror and force adjust it. If you hear a ratcheting sound, the jack screws are OK. Then repeat with hands on top and bottom.

If you hear ratcheting and mirror stays where you stop it, that means one of the motors is bad. The motor assembly is available as a separate part.
