Sounds like an internal transmission problem -- you will have to take the transmission out and need to know what you are doing in order to do this job. Since you are getting a 1 and rev. everything electrical is working.

You probably need a transmission pro to diagnose it properly, but it doesn't sound good. Was the original fluid you drained dirty brown? And did you see significant amounts of metal shavings in the transmission pan? The severe discoloration of the fluid is due to the clutch pack material wearing off and dispersed throughout the fluid. If the fluid smelled burnt, it is almost certain the transaxle is toast.

Problem with my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix not staying running at an idle. When driving it is fine just when I let off of the gas pedal the rpms drops and it stalls

The first thing that comes to mind, is a transmission problem. Look under the hood for the trans dipstick and check the level of that fluid first.

Hey Cody,
Sounds like its time for a transmission filter and fluid change.. and BEWARE - If the transmission has not been serviced on a regular schedule you may not be able to drive away from the service shop..(THIS IS NORMAL for a GM transmission that has not been serviced regularly -- I have had this happen to myself once on a '96 suburban!!) If you need to get the trans rebuilt ..TIP - go to the local drag strip and ask several of the mechanics who the best transmission man in town is..(THEY KNOW!!)..use him!! It can usually be rebuilt for around $1400.. Good luck!!!

Tranny just stopped working 93 grand prix

Usually when this totally meltdown occurs and the fluid level is ok, its because of torque converter failure. i would rebuild asap if possible. its time for a new transmission. there may be a clog in the tranny filter but, i doubt it. this is usually a sign of massive gear damage and torque converter issues. i recommend a total rebuild
