Changed transmission in 1999 Dakota now have a miss


When you replaced the transmission, did you also removed and disconnected any ignition components ? If so, might want to go over them and verify they are connected properly.

Double check all other wiring harnesses that you disconnected when your replaced the transmission. Do you have any engine codes in the ECM or an engine light on ?

I put a new battery in my 1986 Dodge ram 50 that has been sitting for a long time. I have no power, is there a master fuse somewhere I need to check?


Check ur balast resistor on the coil located next to the batery if this is bad it can cause either no electricity or too much electricity going through ur vehicle could blow fuses all the time or not give any power to them if u have a ohm meter. Disconnect wires going to balast and read across terminals if it reads more the 1.7 ohms the replace it u should not see k ohms or M ohms just 1.7 or lower. Hope this helps

How do you remove a starter from a 1999 dodge intrepid. 2.7 liter engine?


the starter is held on by 2 or 3 bolts

1. disconnect the positive cable from the battery
2. press on the brake for 10 sec. to drain all the power out of the vehicles main computer
3. locate the starter and disconnect the positive wire from the starter motor
4. disconnect the ground wire from the starter motor
5. remove the 2 or 3 bolts that hold the starter in ( remember the starter only goes in one way )
6. put in new starter
7. put in the bolts torque the bolts to 23 ft. pounds
8. replace the power to power bolt tighten up tight
9. replace the ground wire to the proper spot
10. return the positive battery wire to the proper spot
11. start the vehicle

Hi there,

First things first...

You should always have the codes read from your on-board diagnostic computer - all engine emission and electrical components are monitored by this computer and I can guarantee you, that there will be codes stored on the computer.

Misfires & backfires can be anything from a bad HO2 sensor, disconnected MAP sensor vaccuum hose, bad injectors or bad cylinder.

Extracting these codes only takes 15mins (if the technician knows what he is doing) and will immediately identify the suspected circuit/s, so I recommend you have this done before wasting time on trial and error.

I'm 90% certain you will find your culprit once the codes are read.

The car hesitates when i first move the car from still to moving, i have replaced the tps, the wires, the plugs, the vaccuum hoses what is my problem?


Obviously your vehicle has a Carburetor and I strongly suspect that the Accelerator Pump needs replacement and proper adjustment. This device injects a small amount of fuel into the Intake Manifold to overcome the Stumble you describe. Has the Ignition Timing been properly set? If it is somewhat retarded that can contribute to the Stumble. Have it checked by an ASE Certified Mechanic.

If it's out that far & you didn't say advanced or retarded, then there's a mechanical issue at hand,more than likely. Use a vaccuum guage & see what happens. If it's reading below 15, better check the timing chain. Could also be a blocked cat converter. The timing is computer controlled & rarely has a problem. Factory is 10 degrees advanced & doesn't change no matter what unless you unplug the coolant sensor & move the distributor. So if it's 12 advanced,no big issue,it's something else causing the lack of power. If it's retarded,you got the timing chain issue more than likely. Write back if you need more help.
