Take the drivers wheel off, remove the plastic covers (two of them), one has screws and 10mm bolts holding it in place and the other one has 12mm bolts (one hidden behind the first panel). The belt tension is on the lower right of the belts you will see. The center nut of the tnesioner pulley has to first be broken loose, and then you take a 12mm wrench and work the tensioner UP to tighten the belt. Once you get the tensioner pulley setup, retighten the center nut of the pulley and you are done. Good luck.

Hello Kim,

What type of vehicle are we discussing here? Engine? 2 WD? Transmission?

Is the whining noise present at idle?

Is your vehicle air conditioned?

I need some details to provide assistance.

Changing alternator on 2001 chrysler sebring convertible do you have to disconnect the air conditioning to change the alternator

Should just be the serpentine belt and then the alternator, it is a little tight to work area wise.

How to remove an alternator from an alfa 2.4 jtd

My best advice is to pay a mechanic to do it! Access to it is a nightmare! Jacked up with a wheel off and the wheel arch liners out!!
You will also possibly need to remove 2 auxiliary belts to do it. (Depending on if you have AirCon fitted). A longer, outer belt and the shorter inner 'stretch' belt.
The alternator itself is held in place with two bolts and the electrical connectors on the back of it. One large wire and one small connector.
One of the smaller pulley wheels will be on a spring loaded arm to give you the slack needed to remove the longer belt.
For the shorter belt you might need to slacken the mounts on the air conditioning compressor to release the belt. To get access to the alternator.

Just changed alternator belt on my 93 honda accord ex and now the air conditioning pulley is wobbling while running and it is smoking

What ever reason you changed it for, the alternator had too much preload on it and now the alternator is bad.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the right front wheel and belt splash shield.
  4. Loosen the tensioner locking bolt and pivot bolt.
  5. Rotate tensioner clockwise to allow enough slack to remove the belt

To install:
  1. With the tensioner in a slack position, install the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor/alternator belt on the pulleys. Slip the belt over the idler last.

Sounds like the timing is lost, go get your engine timed, change plugs and check the continuity on the spark plug cables, also have it scanned for errors on the sensors, that should lead you straigh to the real issue, hope this helps ;-)
