Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

My car (95-Nissan Maxima, with 160K miles) wouldn't start when it is heated by the sun light. Someone suggested that the ignition switch needs replaced. Any suggestion and cost estimate for the corrective work, please? Thanks. Benji Tel. 562-430-1204 benjihan@yahoo.com

Sounds like either weak battery or a weak starter not turning it over quick enough. Check thoses areas first and then go to the ignition switch and check

95 maxima hard to start

Remove the high tension cable to the distributor from the ignition unit. Conduct a spark test. If there's no spark, try to replace the ignition coil or the igniter.

95 nissan maxima. won't start or even turn over. has full battery power to everything. Even tried jumping. has 190k on it. my guess is starter. any way to diagnose or know for sure before I replace the...

Find the starter loctation. On top of the transmission. There should be a decent sized red wire and a smaller black wire i beleive. Anyway the smaller wire gets power from the ignition switch. Take a test light and while someone its turning the key to start it the test light should light up when touching the smaller wire on the starter. If you are not getting power to that wire it could be a broken wire or your ignition switch. If you are getting power then try tapping on the starter with a screwdriver or hammer. Lightly not to hard. It might start but either way you will need a new starter. Hope this helped

Wont start

First of all "THERE IS NO LINKAGE TO THE STARTER AT THE LEVER THAT YOU ARE REFERING TO" No such thing. Its all electronic. So tell this guy to stop blowing smoke. Sound to me like you have a problem with the ignition switch. Not the switch itself, but the white round cylinder at the end of the ignition assembly. There is a whole bunch of wires (red, green, black with yellow stripe etc.) at the end of the ignition swithc assembly. That switch unscrews from the ignition assembly. Sound to me like you need to check that area and possibly replace that switch. Switch costs about $50. That's where I would look. By you moving the lever to lower the steering down, you must move something under there to make the car start and that something is those wires coming out of that switch. Its white and about2 inches round with harness coming out of it thats about 7 inches long. Good luck and let me know what you find.
