Question about 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

1 Answer

Slow start I have a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan and when we start it, sometimes it starts harder/slower. But it will turn over after a few seconds. Is this normal? We checked the battery and it was just fine. Any thoughts? When we get home and restart it again, it fires right up. Just after it sits for awhile, it will start a little harder.

How would we go about checking that? Bring it in?
What does an average starter cost to have replaced?

I would like to say the starter is wearing out,but lets check the ignition modulator sometimes gives those starting problems.

My 2003 dodge grand caravan se with a 3.3l has had intermittent starting problem for 1 and 1/2 years now. Codes p0352 and p0353 have popped a few times. Replaced coil pack, and used electrical grease in...

You might want to have a shop take a look at the engine computer. Code 352 and 353 are used when the engine has direct ignition, and your van uses a single coil for all 6 cylinders. 352 would be for the coil for cylinder 2 and 353 would be for cylinder 3 which would not really apply to your model.
The computer controls spark so it could be a computer problem.
You should not smell gas in the engine compartment unless there is a leak, or the gas tank venting system is not working correctly.

My 2002 dodge caravan wont start i turn the key and nothing

Start by cleaning battery terminals try to start if headlights are bright and nothing check the starter relay by the fuses stick the same type from another circuit or a spare one where it says spare. Try to start if the lights are bright hit the starter with a hammer a few times while someone has the key turned if it starts you need a new starter. If lights go out recharge battery or replace battery

For 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, instrument clusters with light when ignition turn on, but there's no crank and no start. Battery just changed five months ago

I have a similar problem. Do you also notice the gauges on the instrument panel going out from time to time? (Have to slap the dashboard.) I have been told the start problem is related to a problem with the instrument panel (a control unit contained therein). I have found at times turning the key to the ON position for a few seconds (odometer lights stabilize) before moving to the START position sometimes helps.

Unfortunately, replacing the instrument cluster/control unit can cost up to $600-700. I am not a mechanic, but have inquired about this for my own Caravan. Good luck.

2002 Dodge Grand Caravan does not start

could be the starter but could also be a relay that is not working properly. the relays are under the hood. you would have to have someone under the hood and someone turning the key at the same time to see if the relay is working. if it works every time you turn the key then its probably the starter.
