Question about 2005 Ford Excursion

Hesitation/Stuttering at round 2000 rpm on the highway

When driving on the hwy, I experience hesitation/Stuttering at round 2000 rpm. The truck also run rough first thing in the morning. It has very little power and a rough time shifting for the first 5 min or so. This is after I give the plugs about 2 min to warm up. It happens when the outside temp is between 56 – 70 so it’s not freezing temperatures. I live in the central valley of California. Like the other person wrote, when I pulled my 31 trailer, I also experience lack of power when going uphill. In the past I could go up the hill at 60-65 but now its around 50-55. To our recollection, the fuel filter has not been changed but the air filter has.

I plan on taking it in this morning but I just want a good idea of what it could be before I go in.

did you have code cleared and also try fuel injector cleaner, as a clogged or dirty injector can show as a misfire,

SOURCE: 91 F150 runs rough at low idle

If you put a scanner on it and you have no misfire codes I would be looking at either an egr valve stuck open a little or a bad Idle Air Control Valve

SOURCE: changed fuel filter. Now won't run

you are going to have to remove the fuel filter and reinstall it making sure that you have filled it with diesel fuel to eliminate as much air as possible.

Hesitation on acceleration

Most common problem is a failed mass airflow sensor. Remove sensor and carefully inspect the sensor for debris building up on the diode. Another possibility is the egr valve may be partially stuck open. The upper intake manifold is made of plastic. The egr gases enter the intake just behind the throttle body inside the plastic intake. It is pretty common for the hot exhaust gases to burn through the plastic and possibly cause coolant to enter combustion chambers. A restricted catalytic convertor from previous engine misfires will accelerate this due to exhaust gases having no place to escape.

Engine stuttering

have you replaced your O2 censor yet? or changed your air filter lately. I know our avenger is pretty picky we had a dirty air filter once and it seemed like the O2 censor went out because it kept trying to shut off when the idle was lower. a new air filter did a bit for it then we got a censor reader that you plug into the brain box of the car or the cigarette lighter and it told us the O2 was out and our car was doing the low idle thing. after we fixed it no problems.

2000 Sonoma hesitation at between 1500 and 2000 RPM

You may have got a slug of water in the gas, try some additive and see if it will clear up. If it dosent best do a fuel pressure test, i don't know why but pumps have been known to go out just after a fill up.

Transmission is "Hunting"

there are so many sensors nowdays that cause the same problem.---a bad throttle position sensor causes,:transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. a code will not allways set for a problem.
