2003 Ford Explorer-Check engine light with codes lean bank 1 & 2

I have a 2003 Ford explorer Sport. It's a 2 door model. About 3 months ago I got the check engine light. I am the only owner of 6 years. I have never had thsi come on before. Anyway I have still been driving it .Sometimes while driving I can hear the air inside the engine. The codes say lean bank 1 and 2. I have been told it could be a planning gasket? I have no idea but yeaterday it wanted to die on me while idling in park and the idle was rough. Thanks!

If you hear air in the engine, there must be a leak somewhere.
Check all the vaccum hoses for bad ones or dissconnected ones. All it takes is a pin hole in these darn emission systems to screw up the whole system.
It could also be a leaking intake manifold gasket.

Those particular engines are EXTREMELY sensitive to vacuum leaks. This is also consistent with your P0174 system bank #2 lean. You need to replace your intake gaskets. They are easy to replace yourself, if you plan on doing the job yourself. Has campaign 00M12 been done on your vehicle? If not, the go to your local Ford dealer parts department, order the kit part # YL2Z-9E473-AA. In this kit, you get upper and lower intake gaskets (which are made out of rubber), updated bank #2 timing chain tensioner, oil pressure restricter & oil gallery plug.

2003 ford explorer sport 4.0 and the chk engine light is on and the code reads lean on the left bank.. what can this be ? A vacuum leak maybe ? please help..

maybe a clogged fuel injector on that side. use a complete fuel system cleaner, like bg44k, sold at napa's. even stp works if you get the strong stuff. put it in a full tank & drive it out completly. should fix it.
