Question about Mercedes-Benz 300-Class

1 Answer

I have a 1984 mercedes 300d that my son bought and the drivers side window is down and will not operate. I replaced the switch which was broken and have replaced a couple of fuses. It still does not operate. I took off the door panel and knocked on the motor and it makes no noise. I checked for power at the terminal block on the door where there is a green and a black wire but there appears to be no power going to the motor if I'm checking it right?.

This is a common problem, but I've never seen a window regulator go bad in a Mercedes, the problem is probably the switch, you can remove both switches from the consul, and plug in the other side to roll the window backup, you will need to disassemble the switch that does not work and clean all the garbage out of the, and it will work again I've done it to my Mercedes

check primary fuel filter for diesel. If none take hose and blow back to tank. You should hear air bubbling. then try letting pump pick up fuel. You could have a clogged screen in the tank.

1984 mercedes 300d headlights always on high

Well, that's pretty dangerous! I wouldn't want to ride with you at night. I'd look over and see your way of not blinding on-coming drivers, one hand on the wheel and one holding some lever to keep your lights on dim, and I'd start freaking, man, and probably blathering something like, ya know if you tried a NEW DIMMER SWITCH for this old car, I bet it would fix that problem. Can I get off here? Thank you. I can imagine there is a wide source of places you could find new parts for the mercedes, all kinds of multi-function or dimmer switches, and everything else to go another 30 years, lol.

Where are the fuses on a 1984 300 td

for the 300D It is in the engine compartment of the car. After opening the hood, look in the back drivers side corner, right beside the spring to the hood. Their is a black compartment with two knobs. Unscrew the knobs and the cover comes off, there's fuses. The back of the black cover usually can tell you what each fuse is for

Nope 1 fuse controls all the windows. Either its the switch or the window regulators themselves or due to the age the wiring.

Hey. 84 mercedes, My sunroof & driver side

I'm no expert, just a tinkerer, but I recently had the same problem with a couple of window switches and emergency flasher. I replaced the switches. It was cheap a easy. I got the switches from autohausAZ for about $30 each (local Benz dealer wanted $180, NAPA wanted $50 but were out). Carefully slip a thin but sturdy blade beneath the tab at one end of the switch (about 1/8inch) and then the same with the other--a bent spring clip holds the switch in. Once you've got the clips loose, the switch pulls right out.

Both passengeer side windows work down but not up.300d 1990

most likley a switch issue the power source is the same for up or down. Turn your key on turn on the dome lamp and operate the window. If you see the lamp dim and the window does not operate you know you have a draw i.e. the switch is working but you possibley have a regulater or adjustment issue. If there is no change in the dome lamp brightness you know you have no power draw so you have a definate electrical problem. Since the motor will run it in one direction it is the least likley cause. These switches fail commonly. I hope I have been helpful. These switches are also interchangable you can try swapping switches and see if it starts to work

Barrel fuses used to be made of aluminum and corrode on the copper contacts. Pull fuses and replace. 10-15 dollars now will help get rid of electrical gremlins.

Tachometer doesnt work

Hello, I can probably solve your problem but I don't know how I would get paid for it. I haven't seen this pop up under Premium Service on my end. Anyway, listen up. You probably have an earlier 1984 300D which has a TDC cap that controls the tach. It's located on the left fender apron about midway and has a screw-on black cap about 1 1/4" wide. If you unscrew it and pull up, it will come out and on the back side you should see about 3-5 pins This is the TDC cap and the most likely cause of the problem. Later 1984's and 1985 got the signal from the frt crank sensor.
If you find this information to be correct would you please enter a "fixya" rating.
Thanks, Gator241
