Grinding and rattleing sound on the brakes of a 99 Gmc Sierra

I have a 99 gmc Sierra 1500 z71 i have noticed a rattling noise in the front end and when i brake there is a grinding noise and the brake seems to not want to grab right away and we have checked the rotors and pads they seem fairly new. The other day my husband was going in reverse and the brake paddle went all the way to the floor. When the brake paddle hesitates you can feel it on your foot that it is trying to grab. What could be causing this?

If the brake peddle went to the floor it is indicating either a faulty master cylider or there is a breach in one of the brake lines. check the brake fliud for a low level and look for any leaks around the complete area of the ground under the truck for a stained road surface this will point you in the right direction inregards to where the rusted brake line or broken rubber brake hose is located, as for a grinding sound when applying brakes sometimes the inner pad and rotor surface is hard to inspect because the veiw is obstructed by the splash guard on the inner side of the rotor and brake caliper/pad assembly, the only effective way to check the rotors and pads is to remove the calipers and inspect, some guys use a small flashlight to peer through the small gap in between the caliper an spash shield to try to see the condition of the back surface of the rotor I don't prefer this method I like to be thourough. By the way a simple test to check the master cylider is as follows, with truck in park and engine running slowly agently push the brake pedal down if it goes nearly to the floor the master cylinder needs replacing especially if the brake fluid reservoir has not lost any fliud.

There is a horrible rattling noise in the front end of our 03 gmc yukon xl. i think the 4wd linkage is broken.

It sounds more like a possibly bad CV joint in an axle shaft or internal differential problem. There is no mechanical linkage to the front axle, its all electronically controlled. The front suspension is pretty good there aren't a lot of rattle type noises created from it. I need more info to diagnose better. Does it do it only moving? or stopped? over bumps only? in 4wd only? while turning? certain gears or speed only?

2004 gmc z71 pickup on and off grinding noise left front when driving

Jack the wheel up and grab it at 12 and 6 o'clock. Try to move it in and out. If it moves then the wheel bearing is going bad and must be replaced right away. If the wheel won't move then take it off and check the warning scrapers on the brake pads. They are on the inside pad so use a light and see if they are contacting the rotor. If thy are then new pads are in your near future. One of these should solve your problem. Hope this helps.

Rattling sound in drive shaft for 2003 GMC Sierra

Not sure what  you mean by rattling. If it is your drive shaft it could only be a worn U joint os just change the front and rear U joint unless you bent the drive shaft, but the shop should be able to tell you. The only other thing that would rattle under the truck would be the heat sheild for the Catalytic converter and muffler. Good luck and hope this helps

Rattling & squeaking coming from front end of motor..

I'm takin a stabe at this one, I think it may be coming from your waterpump. Use a long piece of metal or a pry bar and place it on any part of the pump that you can safely put it while the truck is running. Put your ear to the bar and you should be able to tell if it's coming from there. Good luck!
