Suburban overheating and air conditioner blowing hot

If you have a viscous fan hub have it replaced as it is not working. The problem you have is that the engine is not driving the fan to draw air through the radiator when idling so the engine overheats . When moving the air flow from driving cools the radiator and so the temp goes back down. If you have electric fans have the codes read to find the fault or check why the electric fans are not working.

always check coolant level first, then if ok. check fan for a/c it should come on and run anytime the a/c is on. so turn a/c on and see if fan kicks on right away if not check relay.

check your blower motor under the passenger side of the dash, round plastic box three screws pull it out something might have fallen though your cowl and chewed up the fan blades. as for the ac your r-12 is probly empty or has a leak bring it to a local garage and have them flush and fill your cooling system. heater would be your thermostat not openig properly, by far your cheapest fix under ten dollar part.

Possible solution for susuns: turns out my problem was an improper freon charge. If your problem is the same as mine your a/c cools very well, but stops blowing air after about 20 minutes. If so, your evaporator core is freezing over and the ice is blocking air flow. Also after parking the truck water will continue to drip from the truck for a long time. To test this theory next time it occurs, switch the selector to vent and the fan to high. You should notice the air flow return within 5-10 minutes or less, however the air will still be quite cold due to the ice formed on the core. If all this fits your situation, take your truck to an experienced technician and have the freon pressures checked. My system needed to be charged a little on the high side to prevent the freezing up.
Hope this helps, capn0623
