Good day;
The following is the removal of the switch
1. remove the steering column trim covers.
2. disconnect the ignition switch harness connector.
3. turn the switch to the run position

IMPORTANT THE IGNITION SWITCH MUST BE IN THE RUN POSITION DURING REMOVAL IN ORDER TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH.

4. remove the switch screws
5. remove the ignition switch from the steering column

if the ignition switch is replaced and a learn procedure is not performed the engine will crank but not start or will start and stall immediately.

30 minute learn procedure
1. turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF
2. attempt to start the engine then release the key to ON. the vehicle will not start
3. observe the SECURITY telltale. after approx 10 min the telltale will turn OFF
4. turn OFF the ignition and wait 5 seconds
5 repeat steps 1-4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles (30 min) the vehicle is now ready to relearn the PASSLOCK sensor data code and or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.

IMPORTANT: THE VEHICLE LEARNS THE PASSLOCK SENSOR DATA CODE AND OR PASSWORD ON THE NEXT IGNITION SWITCH TRANSITION FROM OFF TO CRANK YOU MUST TURN THE IGNITION OFF BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE.

6.start the vehicle the vehicle has now learned the passlock and or password
7. if you have a scan tool clear any codes if needed or disconnect the battery for 30 sec. the history DTC will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

hope this helps

Cheers

My vehicle stopped running and had to have towed. Put in new battery now wont start. Windows have now stopped working as has the radio. Tried to turn key today to roll up windows and key don't work.

Start from scratch...remove post battery posts...inspect...clean...reconnect...as you connect the positive (red) side post you should see a small spark...If not, this battery may be defective...check charge level...the Equinox battery is under a cover, and all connections need to be inspected...Hope this helps. Going back to the first symptom...your car stopped running? This could be the alternator that is defective, and your car will die as the battery runs down...

1987 dodge ramcharger stay running after key is in run position.

The ignition switch has two positions inside the switch. There is an ignition feed when the ignition is in the crank position and another feed for the run position.

Both feeds may come out the same external terminal on the switch, but internally there are 2 contact points, one for each positon on the keyswitch.

The common symptom is the engine will hit or run briefly off the startup and then die. It does this because it loses the ignition feed. Not really familiar with the module wiring for a Chrysler, but I was 37 Years old when your car was built. In the day, you could bypass the ignition switch and wire a power source(alligator clip) directly to the coil + terminal and once the car was started it continued to run this way.

Then some nut invented the solid-state Module. It complicates testing and you know the rest.

You can get wiring diagrams free at Autozone.com by registering your car. I remember tuning up the dual-point distributors and the 440 Six-Packs for this era car.

Please rate my info.

How to change ignition key for 2006 chevy cobalt

remove the plastic cover from the steering colum then you will see the switch on the left side remove the 2 screws you will need to turn the key to release the switch reverse to put together then you will need to relearn the switch to the body control module this is done by turning to crank and leaving it in the run position til the security light stops flashing you will need to do this three time after the third time remove the key for a min then start the car if possible but on a battery charger if the battery goes died during the relearn you will need to start over

To program the transmitters, perform the following procedure while seated in the vehicle driver's seat:

Close all the vehicle doors.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch.
Important: To successfully enter the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode, steps 4 through 6 must be completed within 25 seconds of pressing the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock cylinder.
Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the rest of the procedure.
Release the door lock switch. The chime will sound three chimes to signal that transmitter programming/diagnostic mode is active.
Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the keyless entry transmitter for approximately 4 seconds. The chime will sound two times to signal that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.
To exit the transmitter programming/diagnostic mode perform either of the following:
• Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

• Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch
