Question about 1989 Ford F 250

3 Answers

I put a new gas cap on my 2003 F150 and after driving it a few miles it won't start. I can take the gas cap off and it will start fine. Is the vent tube clogged? Where is the vent tube if this is the problem?

Try putting the old gas cap on and see if the fault is still there. If with the old gas cap on the fault does not recur, check that the new gas cap is the right one for your vehicle and replace with the correct type.

Chances are the gas cap itself is not allowing air to pass through it, I not going to suggest you put your moutharound the cap to see if you can **** air through just buy a Stant locking gas cap. The gas cap has a one way check valve that should allow air to pass into the tank but not outward it is most likely defective.

You have most likely obtained the wrong type of gas cap for your F150. Try using a similar gas cap from another vehicle you may own, or one of your friends. You can also try using the new gas cap on the other car to see if a similar problem occurs.

I have a 1989 Ford f150 drive for about 30 minutes it dies out or stop and want crank for about an hour

I would unplug the gas cap when it stalls; if you hear a hissing sound, change the gas cap, because it builds up a vacuum in the tank.

2006 ford f150 6cyl. Beeping while driving. Several beeps then stops. And again a few miles later. Now it won't start. Like not getting fuel or timing off. Where do I start????

Sound like the low fuel warning beeper. I would start by looking at the fuel gauge to see if it is on empty. If it is a couple gallons of gas may solve the problem. Unless you burnt up the fuel pump by running out of gas. This will set you back about $800-$1,000. You can buy a lot of gas for that kind of money!

I have a chevy s10 2.2 2003 truck and one day it ran about five miles. then stalled. it started back up idled fine but put it in gear. stalled again. had to get towed home replaced the fuel filter,truck...

When you press on the gas when the truck is running, does it rev up?

Did it die while driving down the road (foot on the accelerator) or when idle? - If so, try cranking it and get your RPMs up to 1500-2000 RPMs and put it in drive (with your other foot on the brake). See if it will continue running if you never take your foot off the gas.

The last 5-6 I have gotten gas, 2005 Sportage hard to start at gas pump, but then fine after a few miles - mechanic is clueless!

Your code, assuming it was evap related, also means other issues aside from a loose gas cap. Your fuel system "closes" down to purge unburned fuel back through the engine. A loose gas cap will stop this process, as in why the check engine light will go on. Also, there is a vent solenoid, purge solenoid, fuel tank pressure sensor, and a charcoal canister that are involved. My guess, but if you have a bad vent solenoid, you may have symptoms like yours. Any "good" technician can test this for you.

2003 chevy truck wont stay started. Put a new bat in and it ran for about 5 miles and dead. Waited a few seconds and drove few feet and dead. It will start and sit and idle fine until you push on gas...

Start with the simple, if the fuel filter has not been replaced. There may be a good chance that the filter may have gotten to the end of it's life and needs to be replaced. The fuel filter should be replaced 15,000 miles or one a year.

Good luck and keep me posted.

Check engine light on at 90500 miles 2003 toyota camry is this just a reminder light for scheduled maint.?

Your check engine light usually means there is an issue with your emissions control system. The last time mine came on, I found that my gas cap wasn't on tight enough. I turned it on tightly and the light went off after 30 miles or so. Start there.
If you've tightened the cap and the light is still on after 30 miles, you may have a bad gas cap OR maybe you just got some bad gas at your last fill-up. Try a few gallons of high-test and drive it a while. If nothing changes, a new gas cap is probably the next cheapest option. Good luck.
