Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Alero
Remove the interior panel next to the rear window on the passenger side. There should be a small black box (3"x3") bolted there. This box sends power to the rear defogger and carries the signals from teh integrated FM antenna. Often, the end of the plug fries and stops the defoggers from working while the radio has no problems.
The plug into the box is usually melted. It may look like it can be soldered and hardwired to work again, but more often than not the box is fried too. You can get them on the cheap from a JY or get them through GM.

inspect the rear window and check the heating cords fixed to the glass. check that none of the the element cords are scratched through or broken this will stop the flow or current, also see if you cna see any cables connected ususlly there are two. one on each side. ensure the cables are connected securly.
if possible removed the cables and test for voltage at this point if voltage is present when switched on then the window element is damaged if not present then there is a problem with your rear window heating circuit. or switch.

There is module located behind the right hand quarter trim panel by the back window. Both your defrost and antenna run thru htis module. This module tends to heat up and fries. You wll need a new module and also a new wiring pigtail for it as this pigtail tends to get very brittle where it plugs into the module.
Not all that hard to repair. Just a pain!
Hope this helps
