Blowing blue smoke on stand still when I rev it and engine management light is on mr2 roadsters

Blue smoke indicates the engine is burning oil. as to how the oil is getting into the combustion chamber is the question. It could be as simple you need an Oil change. it could be as bad as the engine is worn past the mechanical ability to contain the oil in its proper ares. (Engine rebuild/ replacement required) First how long has it been since the last oil and filter change? Oil breaks down over time and becomes thin and diluted sometimes with unburnt fuel. Thin oil can get into the combustion chamber. Also you need to look at the miles on the motor. High miles means lots of wear. even lower miles could mean excessive wear depending on its history. Compression test ,dry and wet would be my first check if oil change is not needed. low dry test and a high wet test would indicate worn rings and require rebuild/ replacement. is it only at first start up? or is it all the time? lots of factors involved to give a proper diagnosis.

Hi. This issue has several causes, but the oil light indicator is a strong sign of low pressure in the engine. This will cause the engine lubrication rate to drop, thus, producing a illuminated oil light, and erratic Oil pressure readings. The necessary actions are to have a manual oil pressure test ran on this engine, asap. When running a manual oil pressure test, you will discover if the true oil pressure is low, or normal. If the test proves that the oil pressure is, indeed, low, this will confirm that the Oil pump is suspect.

Now, if the true readings given during the manual oil pressure test are indicating that the pressure is normal, this will be the result of a failed sending unit(oil pressure switch). Although the oil pressure is suspect, this is not your only issue here. There seems to be a abnormal compression rate, present. This is causing the rough idle, and erratic RPMs. I recommend to administer a engine block compression test, as well. This test will discover if , indeed, there are issues within the cylinder heads, and block structure, such as a worn head gasket, cylinder wall issues, and cracked block. Normally, these issue will send signs, like white, or gray smoke out the tail pipe, or discolored oil. It will, also, promote erratic RPM ratings, and a rough idle. Have the oil pressure test, and engine block compression test ran, asap.

Once the test are administered, you will be able to isolate the actual problem areas, more accurately. Check the spark plug wire sets, and ignition assembly for faults, also.

Recently had the oil sending unit replaced, oil pressure is still erratic.

Hi.This will indicate that there may be some sludge build up in the block, or the oil pressure switch is damaged. The more serious issue will be a failing oil pump. To isolate the issue, simply, have a oil pressure test ran on this engine. If the test indicates that the true oil pressure is optimal at idle, kindly replace the oil pressure switch. Now, if the test proves that the pressure is indeed lower than factory specifications, this will confirm that the pump is damaged. Have the pump, and oil pump screen replaced, in this case.

NOTE_ I would, also, recommend to have the engine flushed asap.

What does a low oil pressure alarm mean

It means the sensor that detects your oil pressure has seen a situation where the oil pressure is too low and engine damage will result. Could be just a bad sensor, but better have it checked with a mechanical gauge to see exactly what the pressure is.

Oil pressure

Hi. Your symptoms are a strong indication of major sludge build up in the block region. This type of thick build up will clog up the oil ports, thus, reducing the normal flow of lubricant throughout the engine. This will cause fluctuating oil pressure, as well. Although this issue is a common cause of your symptoms, there are others. The next cause of fluctuating oil pressure will be a failing oil pump. This device can fail mechanically(gear failure). When this occurs, the engine oil will not circulate properly, thus causing the symptoms you are experiencing.

In conclusion, This type of problem will require you to administer a manual oil pressure test. This will confirm the oil pump failure. If the pressure test reveals that, indeed, the engines pressure readings are low, the oil pump will be the culprit. I recommend to administer a engine flush, and change the oil pump and oil pump screen, as well. Now, if the manual pressure test reveals that the pressure is optimal, this will indicate that the presser switch(sending unit) is faulty.

My check oil light comes on when I come to a stop and then goes off when I am driving. I checked oil level and it is fine.

Hi. Due to the fact that the oil level is fine, This will indicate that there may be some sludge build up in the block, or the oil pressure switch is damaged. The more serious issue will be a failing oil pump. To isolate the issue, simply, have a oil pressure test ran on this engine.
