There is no dipstick on this model. Later model falcons with the 4 speed Borg Warner auto have a filler plug in the side of the box, in much the same way as a manual transmission. To check fluid level, you will need to raise the vehicle, making sure it is level, and remove the filler plug. Make sure transmission is in neutral when doing this. If the level is correct, you will have a small dribble of fluid from the hole. if not, top up until fluid gently dribbles out.

How do you check the auto transmission fluid in a 2004xr6 ford falcon?

With the engine running and car in park, pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean with a rag, put the dipstick back in all the way. Pull it back out and read the level to see if any fluid needs to be added.

Not for free:
- ford-falcon-1996-1998-workshop-manual
- austech.info/26116-ford-ef-el-service-manual (its page 2 post 39, is still active; I might add, i think you need to be a registered Austech member to view the link for those looking for it).

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Ford el falcon stalls on idle

don't laugh but there is a hose that runs from the inlet manifold to the mapping sensor. mine had a split in it at the motor end made the engine think it needed more fuel. replaced the hose no more problem

Tranmission fluid

look to the right side of the oil dipstick way down low, really way down low. You'll need a flashlight. You can plan on getting your arm dirty when you twist your arm to get down in there. Do this when the engine is cool or you're likely to burn your forearm.

The dipstick is a small (about 6") length of plastic that must be seated back properly
