Question about 1997 Dodge Neon

My 2002 Dodge Neon will not start. I have changed the plugs...

My 2002 Dodge Neon will not start. The fuel pump is engaged and delivering fuel to the engine. You can hear it whine when you turn the key. Also, the engine floods when I try to start it. You can smell the gas. The starter engages also. All electrical power is on in the car. When I turn the key, the car trys to start but it just will not catch. It seems that there is just no spark in the engine to combust the fuel and start. Even after changing out the plugs, ignition coil and wires. Does anyone have any clue as to what the issue might be?

HEY! I JUST changed my camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor yesterday and I had the EXACT same problem. Now it starts right up for me perfectly, BUT I now have ANOTHER issue. The Engine seems to have lost all power, it will hardly move when it is put in gear, I'm lucky if I can go above 5MPH!

But yea, if your check engine light is on, turn your key(don't try to start it) back and forth 3 times, once you have turned the key the third time, you SHOULD get a code you can look up in the repair manual. The code will either be a readable code: ei P01684, which is the code for battery disconnection, or your check engine light will flash a series of times, stop, then flash again. Depends on your dashboard. If you have the electronic mileage meter, you will get the readable code. If you are unsure of how to perform this very simple home diagnostics test, you can also RENT the actual plug in tester from AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts. I hope this helps you, I figured my problem out the hard way ei MECHANIC= EXPENSIVE!

2002 Dodge Neon starts hard in the morning and if it sits a while. when accelerating it stutters.

When was last healthy tune up? Plugs, plug wires, all filters including FUEL filter. I would start there tune up and all filters, that way you have a good "ground zero" reliability point.

I need to drain the gas tank on my 2002 dodge

Hopefully your not attempting to replace a fuel pump in this vehicle or the tank its self?

There is no drain plug you have to purchase a fuel extractor pump. They are manual or electric. You put pump hose in tank threw fill up and start pumping the fuel out into its container.

My 2003 dodge neon sxt decided to just die on me the other day... I have lights and my battery is good but my car will not turn over nor will my fuel pump engage like it should when the key is turned. I...

Well it could be your fuel pump. That is most likely the first thing I would think of. Or it might just be your starter. Oh, since it won't even crank it will most likely be your starter. If its not that check your fuel pump.

Fuel pump shut off switch

no it doesn't. the fuel pum has a relay that is located in the junction box under the hood if your vehicle is not starting because your not getting fuel check the relay. I use the a/c clutch relay to switch with the fuel pump relay if the vehicle starts just replace the relay if the vehicle doesn't start then you have a bad fuel pump...please rate
