Question about Ford Thunderbird

Doesn't always turn over

1990 Ford Thunderbird (2DR Sedan, 3.8L V6). Doesn't always start when ignition is turned on. Wondering if it is the switch on the brake pedal? (I see two switches) Brake lights are working. Also something seems to be drawing down the battery if it sits for a couple days.

It sounds like your battery isn't holding a charge. Regarding the starting, you may have to replace your starter solenoid. Although many cars do not start if the brake pedal is not depressed, the thunderbird is not one of them. I have one outside in my driveway right now. There are unfortunately, numerous electrical glitches with 89-94 Thunderbirds. I have replaced many many electrical parts for both of mine (a '90 v-6 and a '94 v-8)

Hello Randy, I have a "95 Mercury that did that. The steel pin at the end of the actuator fell out , preventing the ignition switch from shutting off. A new actuator from Ford cured my problem. It was very hard to replace.

My 77 chevy C10 ignition doesn't turn far enough to start the motor.

You can always jumper the starter solenoid until you can get it fixed. You may need to try adjusting the mounting screws for the switch, or the connecting rod may have stretched. The rod goes down the inside of the steering column from the lock cylinder to the switch. The switch is mounted on the bottom of the column.

1988 Trans Am will not start when ignition is turned all the way.

Take a test light to the small wire on the starter and have someone turn it to the start position. If the light lights up and the engine doesn't turn over, I would suspect the starter itself. If the test light doesn't light, try it in neutral and repeat test. If it still doesn't light up, it may be the PRNDL switch or the ignition switch itself.

Lack of power thunderbird sc 1990

This code doesn't cause any lack of power, the fact of the matter is that code 25 is most likely a symptom of the problem, the engine has excessive spark knock being sensed. Have the engine compression tested and have it checked for a misfire. Also have the fuel pressure tested, low fuel pressure can cause this lack of power as well/

1990 7.3 ford diesel wont shut down

You need to determine if the problem is in the ignition switch or the fuel shut off solenoid in the Injector pump. As you stand in front of the truck facing the engine, the wire that goes to the FRONT connector on the DRIVERS side top of the injector pump will be the shut off solenoid.

turn the key to "run" and then disconeect that wire, if it "clicks' then the problem is most likely the ignition switch. If it doesn't then run a jumper wire from the positive post of a bettery to the connection. If it clicks then the problem is the ignition switch, If it doesn't, then the solenoid has failed. the fuel shut off solenoid is available and not hard to change. Just be sure to pay attention to to the spring and how it is assembled. You can purchase the fuel shut off solenoid from mid west fuel injection, there may be other places but I know they have it. Ignition switch should be available form most any auot parts store.

They have a bad ignition problem. Its more than likely the ignition. Turn the key on, Then right below the ignition theres a hole. take a long skinny phillips screw driver and push it up through the hole and you will hit a release for the ignition. Push it up as you pull the ignition out. Then try to start the car with a flat head screwdriver. Write back if that doesn't work but i have a feeling it will.

It is the ignition itself. the place you put your key in is the ignition, or tumbler switch as you call it. You nee to pull the column apart and replace with a new ignition switch.
