Question about Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

Flickering lights. The interior and exterior lights are flickering at a steady pace. I have had this problem intermittently this past winter but it went away. Additionally, I started the truck the other day (I had not driven it for a week or so) and it said the battery was not charging. The volt meter was showing 10 or 11 volt and I could tell it was not getting a charge. I drove it for a while and parked it for fear of getting stuck somewhere. I went back and started it a couple of hours later and the alternator started charging and the volt meter went to just over 14 as normal. Does this sound like the alternator and how can I check it?

I would check and clean the wires going to your alternator first, to be sure, but you probably have a bad diode inside the alternator. Depending on where you live you may be able to get it checked out at a place like Autozone but it will have to be checked when it is acting up or it may check okay. If there is an auto electric repair shop in your area you can get them to check and repair it. Repairs should be about $50 to $60 if its the diodes. Hope this helps.

Why are my interior and exterior light flickering and diming .

Most likely the earth connection. Check all earth wiring, first and foremost check if the lights are powered from the same fuse! If that is the case remove the fuse, clean all contacts and replace with a new fuse! Happy motoring.

2003 with 3-0 well maitained. truck misfires at slow speeds.mechanic put computer on it and it indicated misfired on #1 cylinder at 1000 rpms changed wires didnt solve the problem. engine light still comes...

A misfire on this type of vehicle can be due to 2 factors if it missing spark it will trigger a misfire code and it you have a bad INJECTOR. Most misfires are due to missing spark but there are quite a few in my experience that were due to bad injectors or bad injector wiring. To check this you need a NOID light disconnect injector wire on suspected cylinder in your case #1 and connect wire to NOID light (engine must be running for this) Your NOID light should have a consistent flickering light going while vehicle runs at idle. If light its NOT flickering at a steady pace and flickers erratically. THE PROBLEM IS A BAD Injector wiring or a bad computer. If light flickers consistently and in a steady pattern then YOU HAVE A BAD INJECTOR. Replace injector and that will solve this problem. I know this is a lot of info but It will help you alot. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
