It is easier to find rebuilt heads and sometimes cheaper than finding a shop that grinds valves anymore. I just checked one of my sources for reman heads and this model comes with a hefty price of $650 plus the core charge.

Head gasket repair cost

Well the head gasket set is around $130 depending on where you live. With the other parts needed to R&R the heads I would say $200 might do it. You would have a machine shop check the heads for damage which would be an additional fee.
A repair shop would add 25% or so for markup.

Water in oil 4.6 northstar 99 deville

leaking or cracked cylinder heads. most likely has striped or broken head bolts. major engine repair will be needed. GM has had problems with older northstar engines.

My 1996 cadillac deville keeps running hot, I have changed the thermostat and had the cooling housing gasket changed but it still runs hot not all the time.

Do you have the Northstar engine? If so, there is an issue with head bolts pulling threads. Clues are periodic overheating. Look for exhaust in the cooling system. What happens is under load the compression gases push coolant out, and then you get overheat.
Pressure test the cooling system, there is a small hose that runs from the engine to the coolant tank, sometimes that plugs and air gets trapped. Some models suffer water pump impeller failure, easy to check with a special removal tool.
The head bolt issue is EXTREMELY expensive to fix correctly. Essentially you need to time-sert the bolt holes, and to do that you need to give a bare block to the machine shop.... Real bummer as the repair typically exceeds what is reasonable to invest in the vehicle, thereby rendering the vehicle useless.
I did repair mine, because I really liked the car. This issue should not happen.

Im thinking about buying this 1996 cadillac for cheap but when you first start it theres a little noise the owner says it needs new spider geers is that expensive or is it a good buy

spider gear noise would only be heard while driving since they are part of the differential not motor if it has northstar engine be very careful they are known have head bolt failure resulting in blown head gaskets very pricey repair

2002 cadillac sts,overheating missfire

hi, i sure hope you don't have this problem i'm going to describe to you, but you probably have a seeping head gasket. this would account for both of the conditions you speak of. the northstar 4.6 litre engine is an exellent engine, except for the fact that it uses an aluminum block with steel bolts to hold down the cylinder heads. after these vehicles run for many miles, the hot and cold operation of the engine causes the aluminum surrounding the head bolts to swell and contract and eventually will allow the head surface to warp, allowing coolant into the combustion chamber. you should take it to a shop and have a block test performed, this test uses a blue colored fluid which is sensative to combustion gases(hydro-carbons, carbon monoxide) and it will change color from blue to yellowish if the gases are present in the cooling system. but, if you have a constant misfire, chances are you will find coolant in the oil. check the dipstick and see if there is what looks like mocha coffee on it. this is the mixture of oil and coolant. if so, there is your sign of the problem. this repair is very expensive, so i hope you don't find this to be true.

Can the Head Gaskets be replaced on a 2001 Cadillac Seville STS Northstar without removing the engine? I am thinking about buying one that needs a head gasket replaced.

Yes , but it is very time consuming and if you have never replaced head gaskets before then I would not suggest that this vehicle be your first.
