If both belts are the same age it wouldn't hurt to replace both of them, spray them with a belt dressing before installing new belts. You can get this dressing at Autozone and possibly the belts too. Good luck.

What is the cause of a squeak in a 1997 GMC sierra while its running it sounds like a belt or belt tensioner but isn't

If your sure it's not a belt then u might wanna make sure the pullies the belts run on are good and tight. Although My dad always kept a bar of soap in his truck for squeaky belts;)

Squeaking after starting

The squeaking noise is probably coming from the serpentine belt. Usually a new belt will fix the problem. You could have premature belt failure due to a weak tensioner, oil leaks,or other accessories that are attached to the belt. Hope this helps :)

Fan belt squeaks, is idler pulley adjustable on 1995 gmc v6

Good Morning

Mine is not adjustable, and I doubt yours is.

There is stuff called "BELT DRESSING" you just spray it on the belts. If that makes the sound
go away then it is time to replace the belts, but you can enjoy the quiet for the time it lasts.

Good Luck

How do I release the tension for the engine belt on a 2006 sierra 2500 with 6.0 L.

Find the belt tensioner pulley, located above the crankshaft.
It has a bolt in the middle. With a wrench rotate it to release belt tension.
Hope it will help

I have a 1997 gmc sierra ext cab 4x4 and I have to keep replacing the belt every 6 months so that it won't squeak. I also replaced the tensor with the same result.

I had the same problem with the after market serpentine belt, i replaced it with the OEM and found it not to squeak. Have a closer look at the V groves on the belt and the pulley, I found the V grove on the belt had a different size then the groves on the pulley making them squeal. Good luck and hope this helps.

Rattling & squeaking coming from front end of motor..

I'm takin a stabe at this one, I think it may be coming from your waterpump. Use a long piece of metal or a pry bar and place it on any part of the pump that you can safely put it while the truck is running. Put your ear to the bar and you should be able to tell if it's coming from there. Good luck!

I am replacing the wter pump on my 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 V-6

it is the pulley on the tensioner. put wrench on the bolt itself and push. the tensioner will move. the fan is hard to remove on those trucks but if you can break it loose first with the belt on it then once it is broke loose remove belt it makes it a lot easier. hope it helped
