I have a 2004 nissan maxima that has a water coolant gasket leak. I'm trying to fix it myself but I don't see any threads explaining how.I really need help

Which gasket is it you are talking about ... a cylinder head gasket or a water pump gasket?

A cylinder head gasket replacement isn't straightfoward or cheap to do and requires a lot of technical ability and tools... In the UK a cylinder head gasket replacement would cost about £1000 - probably the same in US dollars

If it is the cylinder head gasket, try a special additive in the coolant system. The images below are generic. You will find similar products in the USA:

For radiator/block sealant have a look for something like:

However, if you're determined to replace a gasket yourself, it's a workshop manual you need.

2.2l engine. How do I remove and replace cylinder head?

Hi Brad.

that's a lot of describing. Based on past experience, I'd recommend looking at manuals made by Haynes
Haynes is the information resource for the DIY enthusiast that are based on full tear-downs and re-builds of the particular cars. they tend to have a lot of info not just on what to do, but how to do it (the gotchas and places where you need the odd tool, dual universal joints and socket extenders, or a helper. Their specific print manual is here
Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire Repair Manual for 1995 thru 2005 and the online version is at
Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire Repair Manual Online for 1995 thru... ( I recommend the print one, since it costs the same as a year online subscription and you get to keep it). It'll make back the $20 the first time you do anything on the car, and they got me through things like a transmission replacement on an 82 Saab 900 in the past.

Hope this helps.

How do I remove oil pan / sump?

AutoZone has free repair manuals online. I would guess you are just dealing with a sticking gasket. If it does need help you should find separate holes that are threaded on the pan.

Head gasket

These cars do not have head gasket problems you need to remove the sparkplugs to get the coolant out and replace the black upper intake manifold as they will leak coolant into the combustion chamber. Common problem.

Need a visual manual (89 camry)

For an online manual I suggest you go to, and become
a member. Doesn't cost anything, and you won't receive junk mail, etc.
I have, and haven't had any problems in about six months now.
(It's the only way I know, to refer someone to a manual)

This is the homepage,
On the homepage at the top right, you'll see -> Become A Member
Click on this, and enter your info. Immediately after you join, you'll have access to their repair information.

Up to the left you'll see the heading ->My Vehicles, and underneath it Manage My Vehicles. Click on Manage My Vehicles.
On the next page you'll see -> Add A Vehicle <- in an orange rectangle.
Click on that, and then choose the year, (1989), Make, (Toyota), Model,
(Camry), and 4 or 6 cylinder.

Under the -> Select A Category <- heading, scroll to the bottom, and click
on -> Vehicle Repair Guides.
In the middle column click on -> Drivetrain. On this page you want ->
Driven Disc And Pressure Plate. Reading this, you'll see you need to remove the transaxle first. This is on the page you came from, and the heading is ->Manual Transaxle.

I can tell you how to do it, but this is as close as I can get to an online manual for you.

Head gasket?

You remove air filter and other parts.
Then you remove head cover.
Then you unscrew and remove the head,
Clean a bit the block
Replace gasket.
Screw back the head
Follow head tourqe settings and screw orders on diagrams when mounting back the head.

The whole thing is not thst easy as it may seem, if you want to DIY you will need to buy the Haynes manual for your car. There you find a step by step procedure with pictures.

Here is a repair manual.

Also enquiry to Haynes.Haynes manuals are the best.

Here is how to replace head gasket on a Honda,
with lots of pics, procedure is the same, torque values and screwing order are different. It is not a job for absolute beginners

Do not forget to rate the solution
