Question about 1997 Chevrolet C1500

There is a knocking noise coming from underneath the truck. I suspect a throw out bearing. I've been noticing that it is hard to get the truck into first gear at times also. Is the nature of the problem the throw out?

What you have described sounds more like a loose flywheel. A throw out bearing does not usually make a knocking sound. Also possible is a loose clutch plate. The only way to be sure is to inspect it.

It could be the throw out bearing, especially if it is popping out of gears. or hard getting into gears.

If my legacy goes in gear when not running can it b the throw out bearing I notice it make noise then ges away when I step on clutch

Probably the clutch plate too. The throw out shouldn't make any noise at all. Time for a clutch job with a throw out bearing too.

Humming sound coming from serpentine belt area in 2008 chevy uplander

using a mechanics stethoscope check each running bearing while the engine is running. The normal noise will be a base rumble but if you hear one that is different to the others ( a series of knocks ) then suspect that as failing. The noise may be from the belt itself as it may be cracking or going hard and in need of replacement

Knocking sound in a 1979 cadillac coupe deville 7.0 liter Rwd

To check for bearing failure remove the plug lead from the suspect cylinder and run the motor. If it is a bearing if will be noticeable less without the stress of firing. It could be a cracked flexi plate that drives the tranny in front of the torque converter. Remove cover plate and visually check for cracks in plate

Knocking noise in engine of 2002 Nissan maxima

This is hard to say with hearing the noise but try to pin point the noise , is it coming from the top or bottom of the motor , the knocking noise could be a bearing in the lower motor or may be something else making it sound like a bearing,

Engine knock noise evident when idling, noise disappears with clutch depressed. what could this be? throw-out bearing of clutch (new clutch put in car 9 months ago) crank shaft?

If it goes away when you depress the clutch it is most probably the throw out bearing-if it were related to the crank or rear main bearing you would hear it all the time.

NOISE WHEN COLD THEN GOES AWAY WHEN WARMS UP,SOMEONE SAID MAIN BEARINGS GOING BAD

Hard to say over the internet but I will try to explain. If the noise is a distict KNOCK KNOCK and it sounds like it is coming from the bottom of the engine, then it most likely is a rod or main bearing. If it is a TAP TAP noise that sounds like it's coming from the top of the engine, then most likely a valve lifer is failing/failed.
the fact that it goes away when the car is warm, makes me lean towards a bad lifter. Normaly if a bearing is bad and knocking, the noise doesn't go away.

The KNOCK noise will be somewhat hollow sounding and the TAP TAP sound will be more solid. If the KNOCK KNOCK is solid, then a rod or main bearing has most likely failed to the point that a new/reman engine will be needed.

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer with a knocking sound coming from the engine. Was told I could be the timing chain. But it's not. What else could be making a loud knocking sound? Thanks.

If your truck has the 4.6 or 5.4 V8 then you know it has two timing chains. The lifters could be causing the knocking noise. If it sounds like it's coming from the top then I would suspect lifters. If it sounds like it's coming from the bottom of the engine then I would suspect main or rod bearings.

There is a noise from the front end of my 2001 odyssey which became noticeable about 400 km ago. It started out as a clicking/knocking sound and is cyclical with wheel/driveline rotation/speed and would be...

it sure sounds like wheel bearings, however, the clicking/knocking sound is more related to the cv joints.
If the spindle nut was loose, it would account for a knocking sound/feel as well. Have the bearings checked before you spend crazy amounts on cv joints.

Squeeling noise when pressing the clutch

That noise is coming from the throw-out bearing, its dry and worn needs to be replaced. While you are in there you should do the whole clutch job becuse you need to remove the tranny to change that bearing which consists of Pressure plate, clutch plate throw-out bearing center bearing and resurfacing of flywheel.maybe even a new slave cylinder. Good Luck
