Question about 2000 Dodge Avenger

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Dodge Avenger. The check engine light came on as soon as I hit 90,000 miles. A friend said they are set to do that and that it can be reset. The car seems to be running fine. Is the check engine light set to come on at 90,000 miles? Can it be reset and how?

Try unhooking the positive terminal of the battery. If the light is still on you have a sensor problem. Most likely an oxygen sensor. Some auto parts stores (like AutoZone) will diagnose your check engine light free of charge.

If you take it to a auto parts store they can help you get the code out of your cars computer. This will not cost you anything and may help identify the probelm. I use Autozone and Carquest for my parts stores.

see this commentary and proceed.with RUN the scanner/computer for easy diagnostic and fix it. God bless you
When you turn the ignition ON before starting the car, the "Check engine" light is supposed to come on indicating that the engine computer (also could be called ECM, PCM, or ECU) is powered on. If the "Check engine" light does not come with the ignition ON, it's possible that there is no power coming to the engine computer (e.g., due to a broken wire, faulty main relay, burnt fuse, etc.) or that there is a problem with the engine computer itself.

2000 dodge avenger suddenly loses power while driving at 30 miles per hour

if you have an auto zone near you go there and ask them to run a check on it and they will hook it up to a computer thing and they can tell you one or more things that may be wrong with it. My car was doing that recently and i found out it was miss fireing on the 2nd cylinder but it still runs. It could also be spark plugs or wires. It might even be a little thing like an O2 cencer. hope this helps

2008 Dodge Avenger check engine light

Not sure if this will work for you but worth a shot. I own a 2005 dodge neon. I know the ecu's are different but maybe dodge was smart and made all the cars this way. Insert you key into ignition. Turn key forward until you are at the last position right before the car starts to crank over. Repeat this for a total of three times then on your digital odometer display, you will see a set of numbers displayed. this will be your code for the malfanction(s) that set your check engine light. Like I said, it might not work on your car but give it a shot. If not, rent an obdII scanner and get your codes. Then you know where to start looking to fix your problem.

I have a 2000 dodge avenger es 2.5 v6 and the check engine light came on so i took it to get it tested and it turned out to be a faulty or bad egr valve. What could the problem be? How much would it c

I found your part on Kragen's website and it runs about 100 dollars. The staff in your local store should be able to help guide you in changing it out and may even help you accomplish the task. Pep Boys, Napa Auto Parts, etc. should most likely have the part and the same customer service to help you. Check around though as the prices will most often close to each other can be quite different from time to time.
