1996 Jeep Cherokee Boggs Down Like it Out Of Fuel

I have asked several people about this problem, May someone has had the same one. My jeep will run fine going down the road, but I can stop at the bottom of a hill and it will stall out. I can go up the hill as long as I don't stop before it, I have to get a running start on them, I have no clue what it could be. Before I start sinking a lot of money in the vehicle I figured I would ask around, So If you think you can help please do.

Your question leaves me with more questions than answers...OK...Your jeep runs fine on a flat roadway. If you stop before going up a hill it will stall...How does it know there is a hill in front of it? Then going downhill it's OK but if you stop at the bottom it will stall...what happens if you don't stop at the bottom? Lets start with: Which engine do you have , what trans? (automatic or stick) and what have you looked at, tested and verified so far? Also how much fuel is in the tank when this is happening? What does it do if you just make a hard run down a flat road then take your foot out of it?

My 1996 Jeep Cherokee will not start unless I hold down the gas peddle as I crank the starter....once started it runs great..fuel pump and filter 2 years old and fuel injectors just replaced

On the fuel rail towards the front you will see the fuel pressure regulator. It will have a vacuum hose going to it. Remove the hose and see if fuel comes out of the regulator. If there is fuel replace it.

My 1996 Jeep all of a sudden just quits while riding down the road and oftentimes backfires.

you are going to have to check for fuel pressure, usually cars only backfire when they are running lean. Push in on the shrader valve on the fuel rail, and have someone crank it for a second to see if you have fuel. Also check for spark.

96 jeep grand cherokee limited v-8. changed fuel filter, pump, coil, distrib. cap, when going over 50 -60 with press. on it starts to spit and sputter like not getting enough fuel. any suggestions someone said...

I could be the CKP (crank sensor), but it could also be several other factors including the TPS. The correct way to start a diagnosis would be to see if any trouble codes are stored in memory. I'm assuming all basic ignition components are ok ; spark plugs, etc.

Sometimes my gas gage works on my 1996 jeep cherokee laredo and most of the time it doesn't. I also can not roll up the back window on the passenger side. Help Please

The master switch is the most likely cause for the window problem, and the fuel gauge is most likely the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank

does your jeep run rough? idle is real low? and when you are driving and push the gas hard it doesnt want to move? if so it is most likely the mass air flow sensor. i had to replace that 2 or 3 times on my 1999 jeep cherokee

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport bogs down

I just posted a simular resonse in another post. What is sounds like it that the fuel pump is starting to go bad. When it heats up after use the pressure drops not pusing the full amount of fuel. Whenits cold it works fine until it heats back up 10-20 mins. remember fuel in the tank helps cool the pump so keep it soewhat full but sounds like the damage is done. your probally gonna have to replace it.
