Question about 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD

1 Answer

2001 Dodge 2500 4wd, running down the road pulling my camper and truck began to gurgle like diesels do under heavy load. Lost some power after a few minuits it heated up about 10 degrees and continued to loose pulling power. Pulled over and let idle (ran purfect) continued to my destination 60 mi. but had significant power issues and motor sounded rough. changed my filter no change. whats my problem 145K never turned a wrench on this truck. I have herd it is more than likely the lift pump and injector. was hoping for a different outcome.

Sadly, I'm of the same opinion of whoever gave you the last suggestion. Maybe, just maybe, you have a couple of bad plugs, but I'd be looking at the lift pump and possibly injectors/rails.

I would start by checking main fuses under the hood. water could have cause a short also check battery cables to see if they are heavy enough to carry the amp load needed to start the car. factory cables are not heavy enough after a few years.

Turn cruise control off. You should never use cruise control when pulling a heavy load. It puts more strain on the transmission and engine.

Engine Vibration

Low octane gas and a missfire could caused the knock sensor to send a signal to the computer which retarded the timing and caused you to loose power. When you killed and restarted it, it recovered. Maybe some new plugs are needed.
