There are no greases zerks or lube points on that model .You actually aren't moving anything while in this state. I have seen exhaust components cause this if there is any contact to chassis or rubber mounts missing. The engine vibration through the exhaust system can resonate noise.

Ther are no lubriction points on the driveshaft,if you rev the engine does the noise get louder or go away?try power braking the car ,make sure e-brake works properly if so apply it ,place the car in drive, place your left foot on the brake ,right on the accelerator, rev to 2000rpm for no more than 10 sec, this is like puttting a load on the drive train, this may unmask your noise,it appears this may be some sort of exhaust rattle since nothing is moving undereath car

Why is my AWD subaru only 2WD?

you will likely need to replace the following:
Duty C Solenoid
Transfer Clutch Pack
Reduction gear
All of these parts are located in the tail end of the 4EAT automatic transmissions. The reduction gear can separate from its hub and damage the above mentioned parts too.

1996 subaru legacy wagon 2.2 AWD leaking tranny fluid out of bell housing. Transmission lines not leaking. Assume it's coming off of the shaft on the torque converter. What seals could be leaking? & can...

I'm not sure about what gasket to check, but I've always left my manual tranny's connected to the transaxles and removed the axles at the transaxle. This made simpler by popping the ball joints out, thus allowing the hub assembly to swing away. Hope this helps.

1997 subaru legacy with awd transmission - driveshaft has been removed due to bad u-joints and trans. locked up the front wheels. What do we need to unlock them?

I have a 93 legacy. Subaru's always run in front wheel drive until a sensor tells the computer the front wheels are not turning the same speed as the rear wheels( spining on ice or sand etc.). At that point all wheels will be driven though a clutch to the rear wheels. This is not good if the car needs to be towed with the front wheels in the air! This "all wheel drive" can be shut down for towing. Under the hood on my 93, there is an in line fuse holder on the pass. side of car behind the front strut mount. Open the top of the holder and it will be empty, put in a fuse (10 or 20 amp or close) , this completes a circuit and shuts down the rear wheels. I don't know if the your 97 has this in the same place, but it must have one some place. hope this can help you.

AWD went out in my 1998 Subaru Forester?

This recently happened to my 98 Subaru Legacy Outback.
My problem is in the rear differential. May be the same for you.
When making a turn, the car sounds like a Star Wars T.I.E. Fighter. The outside wheel is not turning fast enough to keep up with the inside wheel or vice versa. AWD is disengaged and car is currently operating on Front WD. I was told this is fine to drive this way.

How do you make 1992 legacy rear wheel drive

There is a fuse holder in the engine compartment. If you install a fuse in it it will make it front wheel drive but not rear wheel drive.

What oil would i use in my 1992 Legacy Subaru? It is an AWD

cold climate 5W-30W, hot-moderate climate or long commutes at high speeds 10W-30W, these engines are designed for light oils,(very tight clearances) heavy oil's can starve the main and rod bearings of start up lubrication..

Parking lights

on the top of the steering cowl is a switch.. this switch is to allow you to leave side lights on while vehicle is parked and locked. It works independent of the light switch. Check that you have not switched it on while cleaning car. If not the problem is in this system and not your lights.\
