Hi there. The "low limit" switch won't close because the is no or little pressure.
Solution: Hook up freon supply. Open valve. You should hear freon gas going in then stop. The limit switch should close. Start engine and turn on A/C. The compressor will engage then disengage quickly because the low limit opens because there is not enough freon in the system. It should engage for a second and disengage. It will keep doing this until enough freon is in the system. Gauges would be nice.
Thanks
Paul

I have not recharged a system in a while. If the system is out of freon will the compressor still turn to pull in the refrigerant.

It should take the freon . Compressors will actually pull a vacuum if the refrigerant
is completely exhausted. You should be able to recharge system if the unit is just low
on refrigerant.

If no pressure is in system, I would have the accumulator replaced and
have a vacuum pulled on the system before recharging it. (The accumulator has a
dessicant/ filter in it and may become clogged if the system is empty)
The vacuum is to boil off any moisture in the system
from having it open and also to check for leaks. If moisture enters the system because of a leak then it can freeze in the metering
device when the system is recharged. I hope this helps.

On 2002 buick regal ac problems. Tried a jumper wire from the pressure switch on high side( smaller ac line ) . no switch on low side by accumalator. vOLTAGE THROUGH WIRES ON HIGH SIDE. NO VOLTAGE GOING TO...

Does the system have a leak? If it does, then the computer might have set a low freon code that usually does not turn on the check engine light by itself. If this occurs, the code will have to be erased before the compressor will run. The computer does this in order to protect the compressor so that it cannot run without enough freon in the system. Once you correct the amount of freon in the system (if it needs it), reset the system and see if the compressor will run. Some parts stores have the ability to erase codes and will usually do it for free. I hope this solves your problem. It's definitely not good to have AC problems this time of year. Thanks for trying Fixya.com.

Will the a\c compresser work if no freon

Hi,
The answer is no. The unit is protected by a switch to prevent it from not starting with no or low Freon. Freon contains lubricating oil. So --- No freon , no lubrication, compressor will seize up.
Kind of a good thing. Saves the compressor if the unit runs out of Freon.

Where do I add freon ?

If you have to ask that question, you don't have the equipment, (gauges, etc) to be able to safely recharge your AC circuit in your 1993 Buick Regal!

Sorry to be blunt, but you could cause more problems than you would fix if you try to do it yourself.
Do you know what freon is in the system now? You have to recharge with the same type and since you have an older car you probably have old type in it, which means you have to evacuate the system and capture the freon (and dispose of it) and then recharge with the right amount of new type freon.

98 BUICK REGAL GS AC compressor will not come on. It has the climate control unit. All the lights and fans work and there is enought freon. The display reads -38 degrees for the outside temp. Would this...

If the outside temp.sensor is reading -38 degrees then this is what is causing the compressor not to come on.You need to check the wiring to the outside temp.sensor and the sensor.Make sure it is connected. It is located on the front grill area.Between the grill and the bumper cover.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Low voltage tps senser.

Not likely getting a bad TPS.Your TPS runs off a 5volt reference wire.Using multimeter with key on engine off Check to make sure you have your 5volt reference check for any deformed terminals or broken wires inside insulation.

Where is the A/C recharge port located in a 2001 Buick Regal?

Find your A/C compressor. On the compressor you will see two pressure lines, one small and one larger line.
Pick the larger line and follow it back to the firewall, on that line will be your "low side" charge port for recharging purposes.
Good luck, let me know.
