Hi there. Sounds like the chain jumped a couple of teeth putting the valve timing out. Check timing marks on crank and cam. Check for slop in chain. If sloppy, replace.
Thanks
Paul

Why does intake catch on fire in my 1995 chevy silverado 350 5.3

backfiring can be from incorrect firing order--- wires crossed , ignition timing incorrect
or inlet valves remaining open--- hydraulic lifters , incorrect valve timing
check any work you have done that may have caused the problem

Runs good cold, runs bad when it warms up

misfire is bad timing
check cam time.
check spark timing.
bad timing causes backfiring..

did you put the spark wires back like you found them or better the correct firing order? if not it backfires.
last is lean backfire.

1989 ford f150 w/ 5.0 liter..... engine light on

I would check the oil pressure of the engine. The reason is the timing chain tensioners are run with oil pressrue. I think your timing chain tensioners are leaking down when engine is getting to operating tempature . The oil is thinning down as warms up , as it should to lubercate . I would check compression and do a cylinder leak down test on all the cylinders. Then if the compression is good and the cylinder leak down is good. I would change all the timing components, ( chain, timing gears, timing chain tensioners )

Good Luck , I hope this helps.

1997 Grand Am not starting

It could be that your oil or coolant level is still low. When your oil or cooant level is low, your computer senses that and either shuts the fuel pump off or sets limits to it's operation.

check to see color of fluid and what it smells like: if its brown and smell burnt it no good.as for popping, sounds like timing is off/poss timing chain jumped.
