Question about 2004 Dodge Caravan

*** ruined my door, the remote accidently clicked and shut it on both of us... Not really, but now that you're here... ... 2001 Town & Country drivers side sliding rear door... the 'current' issue is as follows: I've cleaned and lubricated all door jams and gaskets, checked all, and there is no mechanical binding, ( it now shuts easier than ever when you do it manually, which takes a little effort, obviously ) but electrically, once the first motor shuts it, the latching motor attempts to latch it, but 'faults out' (quits) after a just a second or two of trying. ----- The passenger side quit a couple of years ago, ( the module board I'm convinced ) and so I just removed the motors so it would shut easy and made it a manual door. ---- But the wife really likes at least one power door. I'm a good technician, generally fix at the component level. I fixed the power window motors by opening them up and soldering across the thermal "fuses" that, once get weak, open constantly... I'm a compentent mechanic, just looking for a cheating cheapskate shortcut here ... ! Could this possibly be the same problem ?? thanks, Ed

I just found your reply. I thought they would email me if there was one, I guess not. I dont believe anything to be out of alignment, although I guess its possible. The door has recently had 2 instances of the latch getting stuck in the shut position while the door is open.(kids pull it shut, and it bounces back because of the closed latch. I'm not sure why this happens, but the kids seem to be able to do it (unintentionally) because they've done it to my Suburban too. I will try to check for any bent or otherwise damaged components. Thanks for the reply.

Hi,if your prepared to go to component level and strip and rebuild ,the following should be quite easy, first locate the power supply wire to the motor in question with a low amps probe attached you should be able to see the amp draw on the motor(snap-on Modis has this),if it pulls normal amps and then spikes this is why it cuts out (trips) so,check it has a good earth connection,if good then time to strip out the motor and carefully strip apart untill you can see the comutator and the carbon brushes,if the brushes are burnt out then you might be able to replace them,if they are ok then just clean the comutator where the brushes contact with a very fine emery cloth untill bright and shiny (brass colour)
reinstall and see if it works if not no choice but to buy a new motor,it would pay you to take the module out and check the circuit board for dry joints on the relays and check for good continuity on the wire from the module to the motor, hope this works for you, good luck.

If you really did shut the door on an obstruction you may have knocked it out of allignment. You said that it trys to latch but will not.n The locking mechanism is very touchy when it comes to alignment.
You can carefull bend the square catch to the right place. You may be right about the latch motor, they do go bad

I had a stuck trung lid the other day that I fixed with one shot of wd40 and a zip tie. Worst case is you hjave to get a new latch motor. I can give you a list of avaiable places. Please let mw know if there is anything I can help you through.

have some one apply pressure on the inside of the door while you press the release handle. May be even a good bump will help as you have jammed the door lock in the latch

If im not mistaking, you said you have no power to your interior lights and heater controls when you have your key off or not on? in order for you to have power to your heater controls your key must be on or accessory. your light not working? you may have turned your switch off to your interior lights by accident. on your entry door, it could probbably be dead batteries in your remote if it came with one.

2003 town & country power side doors

These doors are very complex and there is not really any service except cleaning and lubrication of the moving parts that that the owner can do. Any other issue requires the dealers help and special tools and skills. So clean and lubricate (use spray Lithium white grease) all side door tracks and latches and see if that helps.

The back door latch does not open the door or unlock it 2001 Chr

Replace the latch mechanism. There is a short in the latch. It happened on both of my vans. The latch costs about 90-100 dollars, if memory serves... 3 bolts, a wire connection, and the manual latch bar. Very easy, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to switch out.

Describe your 2001 Chrysler Town &

Shouldn't set off air bag if you are taking off door panel. You could always disconnect negative battery cable to be extra careful. I have replaced both passenger and drivers windows with battery connected. Take your time in removing door panel so avoid breaking plastic retaining clips.

One nasty part of this job is removing bolts that hold window motor to the door. They have a rubberized nut on the backside. Sometimes you can hold them with vise grips. I've found if I just pull the motor really hard the bolt and nut slides out of rubber guide.

It is also a little tricky to remove the unit and reinstall it in the door. Just be patient and take your time.

One tip is to leave the door panel off after you install the new door motor/regulator unit. Simply plug in the window switch and make sure all is functioning correctly and then install door panel.

I buy the replacement window units online and save big bucks over the dealer.

How do i program the garage door transmitter that's found on the 2001 chrysler town and country

If you have a hand book that comes with the van the instructions are in there. on the top panel you have one two or three dots on a switch you have to hold the garage opener next to the switch in the van press both together until it flashes .
