TRANSMISSION

Fuse # 20 or 21 gets power through ignition. This fuse controls PRNDL indicator, speedometer, tach, & will cause transmission to not shift gears correctly. Ours took off in 3rd gear when put in Overdrive & only ran in 3rd gear. If we tried to manually shift thru gears (auto trans), it had 1st, 3rd, reverse. No 2nd or over drive. Replaced ignition. Fixed problem. Root problem was Electric motor that engaged 4 wheel low side was bad. Every time we used 4 Low side it threw power surge through ignition & blew ignition out. Good Luck.

Tac dont work. tranmissionwant shift unless you let off of gas

The connector on the back of the gauge cluster isn't making a good connection. If the speed senser is bad the speedometer won't work either or the fuse the speedometer won't work but if the speedometer does work the trans controller or the shift switch ( park neuurtal drive ) could bemaking abad connection or be full of tans fluild or water (frozen?) The tach not working may indicate a fuse or connection problem to the cluster ( speedometer gauge unit and the computer doesn't know how fast the motor is going) The check engine light should be on in this case and checking for codes and following the repair recomedations for them should find the problem

My tach/speedodometer stop working along with the shift indicator, trans wont shift

I had the same problem. Non funtioning Tach and Speedometer, no power, unable to shift gears, gear indicator light out... I spent the past two hours tracing most wires and checking connectors, looking for faults, testing switches and actuators, I finally noticed that the problem was tied closely with the ignition switch. There is a fault in the switch between position 1 and 2, "Off" and "Run". A search on the web brought up information on the following site that VERIFIES this problem:

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?year=1995&make=GMC&model=Suburban#Star

I will contact the GMC dealer tomorrow and ask THEM to describe the bad switch problem and also see about purchasing parts. WHen I call this morning to describe the problem, they claimed to know nothing of the problem, BUT, were more than happy to offer diagnostic services for $120. This truck is slightly more complicated than a lawn mower, I can check it myself.

I'm having problems with my trans in my 95 suburban. Sometimes when I start it my tach and the shift indicator lights don't light up. When this happens the trans feels as thou Im starting in second or...

there is a sensor on the tranny called nsbu neutral saftery back up switch. this tells the computer what gear the tranny is in when to shift, and controls the indicator lights get it fixed before you damage the tranny

Speedometer just stopped working with no notice

If trans is still shifting its most likely a blown cluster fuse or bad cluster. If you have a check engine light & trans don't shift most likely blown trans fuse or trans vss (speedo) harness at right drive axle broken puple with white stripe wire or light green wire with black stripe

Brand new rebuilt transmission. the odomiter and the gear display went dark, engine light came on and do not have exceleration power

If it feels like your truck is stuck in third gear and wont shift and your tach and speedometer quit it can be the fuse.I would check the fuses first with a test light and make sure the tranny is plugged in.If your not getting power to the fuse that runs the tranny then you will need to replace your ignition switch.Good luck
