if your question was really, how do I hold the crank shaft still
while i remove that huge bolt , that is a different matter
there are 5 ways or more.
with a STICK , select 5th gear, and turn the bolt CCW.
easy huh? mines at 100ft../lbs but my take 150 to pop it loose.
Automatics slush pumps. tranny
well the slush dont hold any crank.

so see all these ways. fsm shows a special too , not sold today.

Crank shaft

You must remove the engine from the car and then pull it apart to replace the crank, this is a very time intensive job that requires lots of skill and special tools, it is not for the home mech.

How to replace a timing gear

Remove the bolt in the center of the crank shaft damper pulley

Use a special puller to remove the pulley

Remove the timing cover & use a puller if doing the
crank gear, most likely your doing the top cam gear
because it has plastic teeth or used to have teeth.

May have to remove water pump as well to get cover off

Change a crankshaft position sensor on a 2000 eclipse

Is this a V6 or 4cyl???>>>(V6) This requires removing the Harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley). Remove (R) front wheel, remove engine splash Guard, Remove crank pulley, remove lower timing belt cover. The Crank sensor is located behind the crank shaft pulley!! I highly recommend having this done by a certified tech, requires special tools. Hopefully this helps!!

Is there a special tool needed to take off the crank shaft pulley on a 1990 honda accord

If your having issues removing the crank pulley bolt you can get a special tool from snap on tools. It slides inside the pulley and holds it in place so you can break the bolt loose.Once the bolt is removed the pulley will slide off.

How do you remove the window knob on a 1994 buick skylark-manual window

there is a special tool that can be purchased that slides between the crank and the door panel. It is used to remove the retaining clip that holds the crank on the shaft.
On some older cars I have fashioned a small hook that I slide between the crank and the panel to grab and remove the retaining clip. Once the clip is removed the crank slides off the shaft.

Focus timing belt replacement.

This is a very very easy timing belt setup. first off you have to remove the valve cover. Then you have to remove the serp belt. Then remove anything thats in your way of the front cover. after you remove the crank pulley re-install the crank bolt. DO NOT LOSEN THE BOLT FOR THE TENSIONER!!!! now spin the crankshaft until the sproket aligns with the timing mark. now at this point the two camshafts should be aligned. now there is a special tool from ford that holds the cam shafts in place. all it is is a 1/4" peice of metal that goes on the left side of the cam shafts to hold them into place. if you mark the cams you wont need the tool. or if you can find something to fit in the left side of the cams that will work too. anyways after that its just the same steps in reverse. very easy to do.
