Well you didn't say which engine you have so I selected a typical V6 from that year. See below. There is one sensor between each exhaust manifold and Catalytic converter, Many vehicles also have an additional O2 sensor afret the Catalytic converter.

They are removed & replaced with special deep set slotted socket wrenches. These tools can usually be borrowed from the local chain supply stores.

Check engine light flashing

This is part of your computer system to tell you that you have to take it back to the dealer for servicing. Usually it means that the oxygen sensor, mounted somewhere in your exhaust system is indicating that the ratio of oxygen to burned gas is not exactly right.

In the cases that I have seen, it was the sensor itself that had failed and replacing that sensor cured the problem. The sensor sells for 50-100 bucks and cost another 50 bucks to have it replaced.

Where is the oxygen sensor located on a lincoln town car 96

My 96 has 4 cat converters, 2 (upstream and down stream) on each side. There are 2 oxygen sensors on each side, before upstream converter and after upstream converter. But make sure they are bad before you replace them (4 of them will cost you about $200), and my 1996 with 175K has 3 original still running. Other sensors (air flow, coolant temp) might be the problem as well.

P 0734 -gear 4 incorrect ratio and P 0150 oxin sensor circut ( band 2 sensor 1\r\n and car will not pass smog what do we do a 1996 i30 infiniti

The first code could be due to a shift solenoid in the transmission. you can have a transmission shop use a scanner to observe the shift patterns while driving it, some will do free diagnostics if you shop around. the second code is for your oxygen sensor, you will need to replace it because if bad it can cause the engine computer to make the car run lean or rich and will make it fail said smog tests. the sensor the code is referring to is your upper sensor, if it is a v6 model it will be on the passenger side upper or if it is a 4 cylinder model it will be the only upper sensor.

Code says all 4 o2 sensors bad.

The Oxygen sensor is bad and your car is telling you this. The sensor measures the amoung of Oxygen in the burned gasses. Replace it for about $125.00 or have it done for around $150 - $200.

Warning, if you don't have experience and the special tool, you will probably break the first one ... doubbling the cost of parts.

Po420" Problems 1996 plymouth van

A code P0420 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Leaded fuel was used where unleaded was called for
  • An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
  • The engine coolant temperature sensor is not working properly
  • Damaged or leaking exhaust manifold / catalytic converter / exhaust pipe
  • Retarded spark timing
  • The oxygen sensors in front and behind the converter are reporting too similar of readings

Some suggested steps for troubleshooting a P0420 code include:
  • Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required.
  • Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady).
  • Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary
  • Replace the catalytic converter

I'm getting four different fault codes for my 2000 infiniti i30. I have canceled all the codes several times but they always come back within a month or two. The i30 runs fine in every respect. The codes...

Sensor 2(s) are those aft of the catalytic converter(s).
The pre-cat sensors typically fail more frequently than those post-cat.
The codes you cite are related to all sensors.
It is worth running a test of the sensors. Most garages can do the tests without any disassembly and for less than the cost of replacing any one of the four. Then you can replace the faulty unit with confidence.
