I have a 1988 f150. I have had to several shops

I am a female with a brake issue (i think thats what it is) I have a 1988 f150. I have had to several shops for a brake problem. The first company side I needed new brakes and it fix my problem (wrong) The problem is the ABS real light come and the park brake come on. You can only drive it about three miles before it comes on. It starts to smell like its burning and the brakes get hard to push down. I would appreciated andy suggestions. Thanks

I am to presume that it is the rear brakes that are locking up. It appears to me that the shop that did your brake work installed the self adjuster on backwards. The self adjuster is a device that will adjust, through the use of a screw type mechanism, when you go in reverse and hit the brakes it will adjust out. If that device is put on backwards then everytime you hit the brakes going forward it will tighten the brakes against the rear drum. It wou't take long for this to happen.

I need a diagram for the brake vacuum switch on a 1988 F150

Look at the brake pedal and follow it up under the dash. The switch is mounted to a bracket. The switch is the only thing touching the brake pedal arm.

Adjusting brakes 1988 mazda capella

You are adjusting brakes, or need to know how to adjust brakes. In general, in between the two shoes on the back there is a screw with a star wheel on it that gets turned with brake pedal is pressed. Sometimes this screw hangs up from lack of turning and needs to be taken apart and lightly lubed. There is usually a plug that can be knocked out in the backing plate behind the shoes so this star wheel can be turned from under the car. Most cars if this screw is turning free can be adjusted tighter by simply backing up and pressing the brake pedal several times. That will keep pushing the star wheel and adjust the brake shoes out. I am talking about rear brakes in general and am thinking that the Mazda has some simularities.

I have am 1988 Ford F150 and am havving trouble with the brake lights. I have power and a good ground the signals both work and my tail lights work......just no brake lights. Any ideas?

check both left and right lamps at rear .if one lamp is shorted internally it will disable your brakes. These bulbs are dual winding lamps for signal and brakes.I would replace them both if not then you might have issue with brake switch

Just bought 1988 pathfinder and am having some tail light issues. When headlights are off and I brake, the left brake light is the only one that works. When headlights are on, both rear running lights...

Hi, There are several possibilities that I can think of:
a) The incorrect bulbs were inserted into the sockets for the brake lights.
b) The correct bulbs were inserted incorrectly into the sockets for the brake lights.
and
c) Faulty wiring work was done to the vehicle, such as after an accident.
I was unable to get the bulb information on line. So here's is what you can do.
If you have the owner's manual it will specify which bulbs work correctly. If you
don't, go to a local auto parts house, such as Advance, Autozone, etc.
They will be able to recommend the correct bulbs you need.
I would check you existing bulbs and also, at the same time check to see if they are inserted
correctly.
Hope this helps,
Mark

1988 ford f150 - it overheated and overflowed, put more liquid in, now its gone What do you think it is? no sign of radiator leak

If you have added water/antifreeze only once, there is still air in the cooling system and it will take several topping offs to completely fill it. If you have already filled it several times and it still looses fluid, then you may have blown a head gasket. Top off the radiator again and run the truck to get it up to operating temp. Open the radiator cap (slowly and carfully so it doesn't blow out at you) and see if there are any bubbles coming up in the radiator. This is a sure sign of a leaking head gasket. Also white smoke from the exhaust pipe is another telltale sign.

You have several options...find one in a scrapyard that matches, find a longer one with same diameter and joint size and have a driveshaft shop shorten it, or have one made for you at a driveshaft shop. where is the original?
