19,100 miles and the front brake pads were down to metal on one side and paper thin on the other . Am I the only one who has encountered this ? Of course it's not a warranty item .

I'm guessing the driver side is worn more. It's due to the calipers being closer to master cylinder on driver side. If the pads wear too quickly it could be due to hanging calipers. Or weak rear brakes forcing front to do more work.

2014 Chevy Cruze. The cost of front brakes and rotors please?

About Brake Pad Replacement Please note: Pricing shown is for either front brakes or rear brakes. Made of ceramic, organic or metallic material, brake pads squeeze against the brake disc rotors to slow the vehicle down. Every time you apply the brakes, the pads wear down a tiny bit. Eventually a wear indicator starts squeaking to tell you it's time to replace the brake pads. It's always better to replace the pads before they start squeaking, to avoid damaging the brake rotors. A mechanic can check brake pad thickness during a tire rotation or other service. The number of miles you can go before replacing the brake pads really depends on your driving style.

Front brake caliper on brivers side omn a 99 caravan keep locking up and smoking. i went through 3 calipers

Chances are the calipers are not at fault. You probably live in a northern state that puts salt on the roads in the winter time. Take a close look at the brake shoes. and where they mount. Often the manufacturer will put a thin metal plate over a caste iron iron caliper/brake pad mount. This is to give the brake pads a smooth surface to slide on. Take the the thin metal plates off of the bracket and file off the rust under neath the plates. The rust is expanding and pushing against the back of the thin plates causing the brake pads to bind and stick. This is then overheating the caliper and ruining it. Take a file and remove all the rust on the mounting brackets especially under the the brake pad slide plates. Once the brake pads move freely again the problem should go away.

When you hear the front passenger brakes screech does it mean they need replacing

The brake pads do. There's a thin piece of metal on the pad that will drag on the rotor when they get then to let you know that they are thin and need to be replaced. If you don't replace them soon, you could wear all the way down to the metal backing plates, and ruin your rotors, which will be quite a bit more expensive.

I replaced front driverside brake pads and the caliper will not fit why ?

If the piston was not compressed completely back into caliper, ( I use a large C-clamp,) then the caliper/brake pads will not fit over the Rotor. Also when you compress the piston back into the caliper be sure the brake fluid resevoir doesn't overflow when the fluid returns during the compression process.

My 1998 ford escort brake peddle started pulsing and then a noise. Checked fluid, not down any fluid, and no leeks, just feels like I can not stop well., No ABS lite til yesterday, then it came on after...

Normally a "pulsing" brake pedal means that that you have a warped brake rotor or the brake caliper is lose. I would start by taking the front wheel off and inspecting the brake pads and the rotor. If the brake pads are worn down bad replace them. Pay special attention to the brake rotors also as if the are grooved very bad, they should also be replaced.

Brakes ,in front, act like the brakes are rubbing metal to metal but not all tyhe time....check the brake padsd and they are good

what you may be thinking is metal is just hard pads,,,or even dry pads? try striping the barkes out and putting a thin smear of "copper grease" on the back's of the brake pads before you refit them,,,,the copper grease stops the pads from screeming when you push the brake's down,,,,only put grease on the backs of the pads dont get any grease on the brake pad fronts!!!

Front breaks squeking, new pads

Did you put brake grease on the outside of the pads when you replaced them? It used to come with em but lately you have to buy it separate, Put a thin layer on metal side of pads. Especially where the piston of the caliper meets the pad.

Loud grinding noise from front end

You can see the brake disc on the front wheels, Check both sides of each side, looking for scoring. Brake pads have wear insicators on them that are metal tabs that contact the rotor (disc) when pads get thin. It would be better to pull the wheels off to get a good look at the pads. Good luck

Premature brake wear on my 2005 Honda Civic

What it sounds like is you have very poor quality pads on the car. The subject of brake pads can go on for days. If it was me I would buy a top of the line name brand pads , if the rotors can be turned the turn them or replace them. Also struts and shocks that are old affect the brakes and stopping distance. I think someone has just sold you poor quality brakes. and if your rotors are warpped this will cause the wiggle you feel when stopping.

Brakes

whenever you start hearing a squeeling sound when you apply the brakes, it could be anywhere from 10 000 to 50 000 miles, the squeeling is a warning system developed into the brake pads to let you know when you need to replace them, it is just a thin piece of metal that rubs alongside the pad when the pad gets thin
