1993 Bonneville - we can't get the crankshaft pulley off

My boyfriend is trying to replace the crankshaft sensor on my car. Trouble is, we can't get the pulley off. We have tried a 3-prong puller but all 3 prongs fail to fit in the holes at the same time. We're looking for an easier method or someone to tell us what we're doing wrong. Please help! Thanks!

I had the same problem a few months ago, here is how I got it off. First jack up the car and put it on jack stands (at least the front passenger side) The take a 1/2" drive breakover bar with the correct size socket , I think it is a 25 or 27mm, place it on the bolt in the pully center with the handle of the breakover bar pointing out towards the front of the car and with the handle as close to the ground as you can get it. Now, with the handle of the breakover bar wedged on the ground, simple get in the car and hit the ignition in short bursts, it will break the bolt loose. I know it sounds a little crazy but that is what the machanic at the shop I take all my cars to said to do and it worked the first time I tried it. I had broke 2 rachets and an impact wrench trying to get it off and the breakover bar wedged on to the ground worked perfectlly. Just remember not to have anyone stand around the car as the breakover bar could come out from under the car without warning.

I have a 1993 pontiac boneville se. It leaks oil from around the crankshaft behind harmonic balancer. what could it be?

What you will have to do ,is lower one side of the
sub frame, after you support the car on jack stands

Then you will have clearance to use a puller to remove
the crankshaft damper pulley & then remove & replace
the front and leaking timing cover seal

Very common problem on any car over 12 years old

Not the worst job,but if you do yourself,it may take a couple of days.

How to change the crankshaft position sensor in a 95 bonneville

Not easy, you'll have to pull the crankshaft pulley off and behind it you will find a bracket mounted on the front cover of the engine that holds the sensor. After replacing the sensor, it's critical that you line up the vanes on the crank pulley with the sensor. You do this by wrapping a paper match over the vanes as you rotate the vanes into the sensor before you tighten its adjusting screw, then once in position, the adjustment is tightened and the crank rotated so the match can be removed.

Where does the cam-crank sensor go on a 1993 pontiac bonneville?

I don't know about the cam sensor, but the crankshaft position sensor is located just behind the crankshaft pulley, or possibly even right on the pulley. Should be just a small little thing with a couple small bolts holding it down. If you are changing it out, just be very careful to get it reinstalled in exactly the right position, they can be very finnicky.

My car got FS engine. it cranks but no spark on plugs.replaced another distributor still got same is on connector.

  1. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wire harness plug.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals A and B and measure the resistance. Fig. 1: Crankshaft position sensor connector terminals. Measure the resistance across the A and B terminals 89544g27.gif
Fig. 2: Measure the air gap between the crankshaft position sensor and the crankshaft pulley 89544g28.gif

  3. The reading should be 520–580 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
  4. If not as specified, replace the sensor.
  5. Measure the air gap of the sensor between the crankshaft pulley and the sensor.
  6. Proper air gap should be 0.040–0.080 in. (1–2 mm).
  7. If not as specified, inspect the crankshaft pulley and/or replace the sensor.

I am trying to locate the crankshaft sensor on a 92 pontiac bonneville se

It is by the crankshaft pulley. It is behind the pulley and you have to remove the pulley to replace it.There is a special tool for installing the new one.If you look through the pulley you should be able to see it.Hope this helps.Good luck.
