Question about 2005 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

Can't get the key out of the ignition.

I suddenly can't get the key out of the ignition. Also happening at the same time is that I can move my shifter out of park and into any gear while stopped without pressing on the break or pressing the release button on the shifter.

You probably need to figure out the problem with the shifter. It has to think it's securely in Park before it will release the key. Try shoving forward on the shift lever while it's in Park as you try to remove the key.

Try holding key in start position while moving shifter slowly through all gears to see if you get a click or start at all. Safety neutral switch/back-up lights on transmission were known to cause that problem.

your steering wheel lock is connected to ignition in column, pull hard on steering wheel in direction wheels are turned at the same time turn key, this should free them both up.

Car "locked" in Park. Cannot get gear to shift. Happened all of a sudden whe

Check the oil level in the gearbox, and also the slave cylinder thats the most likely cause. if not then it will be the torque converter shot.

When i put the key in the ignition and turn it over nothing happens. Then when i turned the key off and pulled it out the lights on the dash stayed on and I could move the shifter. What is wrong with my...

What sounds like happened, is that the ignition is not reading that the key is in there, but its still reading that the ignition is on. Try replacing the ignition, you may have jammed some tumblers in there needs a replacement. If that dont work, then there is something wrong with the electronic ignition. But that dont sound like whats wrong since the steering wheels is not locked and you can move the shifter back and forth. I think its a bad ignition. Hope this helps!

Ket not releasing from ignition

take gear shifter out of park. put in d or any other gear then put back in park. car does not have to be on. just put the key in the on position to be able to move the shifter. make sure it goes all the way up. if their are drinks in the cup holder they may prevent your hand from pushing the shifter all the way up. seems to be a sensitive switch in their .this may help without having to spend $450

Ignition is locking up on my 2004 suzuki verona

Hi There, 3 possible things with this problem.
One could be a little spring in the shifter that broke. What it does is it prevents the shifter going over into the park slot. Try holding the shifter to the left and then try to remove the key.
Two the trumblerd in the ign switch is going bad. Preventing the key to turn. The ign switch needs to be replaced or have a lock smith try to installed new trumbles.
Three, have a new key cut and see if it works. When car keys get wore down, they don't pull the trunbles in, some stricks up in the key clyinder and prevents it from turning. Don
