Question about 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer

1 Answer

S-10 Blazer 4wd problem

Hi, my 1994 s-10 engages 4wd hi one out of a houndred times, usually the 4wd low engages, but both lamps on the switch lights up.
The 4wd actuator seems to work fine, but no 4wd hi works.
I checked the vacum lines and they are fine. When i pull the actuator-wire manually i can still turn the shaft from the transfer case.
I think this should be impossible to turn the shaft when the wire is pulled manually, but it`s a little wierd that the 4wd low work using the switch. Both lights illuminate the most of the time, sometimes the 4wd low is engaged, and sometimes 2wd hi, and a seldom time the 4wd hi is engaged.
The 4wd hi lamp illuminates alone sometimes, and then the 4wd hi is engaged.
Any solutions for this?

Thanks
John

Something is wrong with the 4WD. Will engage in neutral to 4WD Lo which means the vaccum is probably working but 4WD Hi will not engage. I have tried resetting the control module as described in the owners...

what you are most likely feeling is in 4lo the transfer case drops the gear ratio and 4hi just locks the front differential in. do you know if the front axle is locking in in 4lo? i suspect you have a vacuum issue to the front actuator and this is why. there is a vacuum switch on top of transfer case that will stick and cause problems and sometimes the vacuum lines will pop off of this switch.check and see if you are getting vacuum to the actuator if not follow lines be sure one is not broken if you are then actuator is bad

4wd low not working 4wd high works but when you put the truck in neutral and press the low button nothing happens the button doesnt even light up

Most likely the button the dash is shot. I had a Blazer that did the same thing. Took the button apart, cleaned it and started working fine.[contact was bad]....just a thought before you go out and buy one !!

Transfer case module causes this, first disconnect battery then wait 1 min reconnect and try 4 high should work till you can get a trained tech to fix.

Transfer case motor for push button 4x4

i have a 1993 blazer 4.3 w code 4x4 with a 4L60 E . my truck wouldn;t go in 4 hi or low. so i changed the transfer case motor and it works fine now. If you turn the ignition key to on but not crank the engine and open the driver door and push 4 hi button, you should hear the transfer case motor cycle for 3 or 4 seconds every time you push button and the light will flash until it goes in 4wd If the 4 hi button light doesn't flash during cycle then it could be a bad switch. if the transfer case motor won't cycle it could be a fuse or a bad transfer case motor . Hope this answers your question.

4wd not engaging no indicater lgt basicaly no 4wd

I had a prolem with my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT. The 4wd indicator light would randomly start to blink while moving and when I flipped the switch to 4wd hi or low it would engage but easily disengage and the indicator lights would not come on. I was hearing a grinding sound coming from my hubs so I replaced both front hub assemblies and the light stopped blinking and 4wd hi/low works great now. it was about 300 bucks for the hub assemblies and only took me an hour or two to change.
