I have a 78 mgb the head lights, turn signals, gas gage, and rpm gage, don't work. We have checked wiring and fuses but can't find anything. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Ignition switch? Battery?: Voltage correct? Battery size and type correct? (Other owners\' restore screw-ups? Kids?) Fuses correct amperage?: Power surge? Items themselves ruined/burned out? Having a power drainage in my 1988 pontiac grand prix and i dont know what the problem is everything checks out just fine

A mechanic would disconnect the battery and check for a drain on each circuit in the car.
Could be a bad diode in the alternator, a light on somewhere, a stuck relay, and so on.

Check gages light came on. the gas gage read 20 mi to empty. turned it off then on again and read 107 mi to empty. the engine soon died in the middle of traffic. Is it the battery???

The battery is one possible problem. However, the alternator charges the battery, and if that goes bad, the check gauges light will go on, in particular, the charge light will go on (red in color).

This is actually a very common problem. If the alternator is bad, it can cause the car to lose voltage over time, 30 to 40 minutes after the light goes on, the car will die if operated for that period of time with a fully charged battery, even.

2002 chrysler sebring 2.7 v6 elictrical problem???

Sounds like a charging system issue. Just because the alternator itself tested fine doesn't mean it's getting power to the car and battery. Charge the battery and start the car (with everything connected normally, including alternator). While car is idling, disconnect the battery (negative post wI'll do). If car dies, there's a problem with the alternator wiring/harness. Once the vehicle is running, the alternator should provide plenty of power. Check voltage at battery (from alternator) and should be around 14V. Check alternator fuse.
Could be the voltage regulator in the alternator going out, which would need a new alternator.

Daughter's 1999 Jetta; smelled burnt rubber when leaving work last week. Car ran fine. Yesterday, started squealing (sounded like belt slipping) when started. Later in day, she turned car off and sat with...

It sounds like the alternator belt or the alternator is going bad. The squealing sound was probably the alternator belt. the alternator belt might need to get tightened or replaced or you may need a new alternator. The alternator keeps the battery charged. When the alternator goes bad the battery can not be recharged. You also should keep the power steering fluid up to par or the power steering will go bad on you.
