'99 Dodge Intrepid with a weird transmission

So I just got to 100k miles about a month ago, I'm just over 101k now, and on my way to work I notice that my automatic is having a bit of trouble. The shifting is really jerky, and it'll rarely shift up or down. When I first start the car it's in first but once I start to drive it jerks into second and stays there, every so often it'll kick up to third, but once I slow down it drops into second until I restart the car!

This could be a number of things but my 99 ES had a bad speed sensor that caused similar problems. Your best to have a mechanic check and replace if needed.
Don't drive it too much before getting this fixed.

Weird shifting after changing ATF and replacing filter

An old saying is "don't change the fluid for the first time after 100k".
If the transmission has not been serviced before 100k doing it after that point often causes problems. It has something to do with what is floating around in the oil.
In your case you may have stirred up some junk that is now in the valve body.

Can a 1999 dodge intrepid 2.7 liter motor fit in a 2002 dodge intepid that also contained a 2.7 liter motor are they compatible

look at the cars vin# on the door panel. the 99 model it will tell you what month and year the car was made such as 06/1999 if the 1999 model was made from 06/99 not before but 06/99 and above the engines will fit. also check the bolt patterns on the transmissions and starter location on each motor to see if in the same locations. if all match, they will interchange. thank you for choosing

I was driving my 99 Intrepid non ES and the speedometer stopped working, the service engine soon light came on, and the transmition seemed hot, plus the cars power was jumpy and i thought the car was going...

I had the same problem with my intrepid 2 months ago and it was a scray thought thinking my tranny was out or something and it was a common problem with this car it was the input/output relay on the tranny easy to get to and cheap

They are pretty reliable. Transmissions sometimes have problems and battery changing, etc isnt easy. I have had 2 concordes and 2 intrepids, as well as a van from chrysler and for the most part they are fine except the transmissions. have had to change the transmission in 2 of the cars and the van (which takes a different one). Engines are good if taken care of. Rick
