Question about 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD
Sounds to me like your over fueling. Are you sure you have the map connected correctly. Make sure with the engine running you have vacuum. A plugged vacuum line can cause your problems. Make sure no pins are bent in the connector. Listen with the engine running for a large vacuum leaks.

Pull your AIS motor off, clean with throttle body spray, especially pintle (pointed end) and hole it came out of , re-install & try again, see if that helps. If it works good for a while & acts up again, replace it.
