Certainly, that's one way! If the clutch is worn out, it will "slip". A way to tell is to put the car in 3rd gear and rfev the engine just alittle and then let ehte cutch "out." If the engine continues running, the clutch is slipping. You may be able to smell "something" buring as well. That would be the clutch disintegrating.

Be sure to have the flywheel inspected for damage when the clutch is replaced. It may only require resurfacing but it may need ot be replaced.

1995 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L 5-speed manual feels like 4x4 is not fully engaging.


check that the clutch is fully engaging by checking if there is free play at the throw out lever and clutch push rod . If you cannot push the rod back into the cylinder then the slipping is because the clutch is only partially engaged. Replace the clutch master cylinder if that is the case. If it is right then the fault will be in the pressure plat/ cutch plate and it may require a clutch kit.

M/T car with a clutch
the slave is the device that pushes the clutch lever , as it enters the clutch bell housing (the hunk of alum. that is between the engine and trans 'bell shaped..)
400 or 4000? , my guess is you mean, 4000 rpm
3000 on the round is normal./
the engine should idle at 800 rpm.
that is just 1 tick below the 1 (1 = 1000 on the scale see the 1k or
x1000 on the dial, that means all numbers are times 1000.
so point 8 rpm is 0.8 x 1000 or 800.

do not ride the clutch pedal or you will buy many a clutch.
the save bad, never cause, slipping clutch. (near impossible)
the hyd, clutch actuator is self adjusting as clutch wears.
the clutch will grind gears if the slave fails. the slave annoucces its bad in advance buy loss of fluid on ground and level drop on the cutch master cylinder.
post the symptoms, and ask for help based on those facts.
a slipping clutch is a bad clutch. (or soaked in oil, and same )
please repost real RPMs using the x1000 scale factor for best answer
and when they happen.

As long as the clutch is releasing and there are no leaks, replacing the slave will not help. A possible solution is to add or change the return spring. I'm not familiar with this model, but it is likely a good mechanic could devise a small modification for this purpose. Another possibility is to place a small block under the pedal to keep it from going down to where it will not come back.

Looks like what I would call the Cutch Throw Out Arm. It is connected to the Throw Out Shaft.

Is the part actually broken or did it just come loose and slip on the shaft? There is a pinch bolt that both holds it on the shaft and clamps it tight to the splines so it can't rotate. If the bolt was stripped or broken you could pick one up at any good hardware store. Likely to be metric.

The cutch pedal should have about an inch of free play before contacting the pressure plate. otherwise throw out bearing will run continuously . It wont last long. Adjust at firewall for 1 inch of free play at the top of pedal stroke.

Did you change the transmission filter? Sounds like no Front pump pressure. dirty filter will cause cavitation of the pump and damage to pump. Damage to cutch packs will occur too. Do not run until investigating filter, make sure o ring or grommet in valve body is present for filter

Not positive about Hyundai,but most all import clutch systems that use hydraulics do have a clutch adjustment up under the dash.Get on the driver side floorboard with a light,lay on the floorboard looking UP...under the dash.Locate the clutch pedal,now track it UP to where you see a rod coming from the firewall back to the clutch pedal.This is the rod that actuates the clutch master cylinder.Track it back to the cutch pedal,and there should be threads on the end closest to the pedal.There should also be a jam nut,usually either 12mm or 14 mm.Loosen the jam nut,and back it off completely.Now adjust the rod in,towards the clutch pedal if you desire an engagement point higher on the clutch pedal travel.If you want the engagement point closer to the floorboards,adjust the rod out,towards the firewall.Good luck and rememeber to rate this solution.
