Jonypopr isn't entirely accurate, but he's close enough. FM radio stations in the US are all stereo. If you are tuned, for instance, to 90.1 then you are actually listening to the entire band between 90.025 and 90.175. More accurately the left side of stereo is broadcast using the bandwidth between 90.025 and 90.1 the right side uses 90.1 to 90.175. All stations are set up like this so you are actually using the bandwidth of the even numbers except for a small "spacer" between stations to keep the signals separate.

Why? North American radio stations are only broadcast on "odd" frequencies - x.1, x.3, etc.
