If it doesn't sound normal when you crank the starter, remove the oil fill cap on the valve cover, and look to see if the camshaft turns when someone cranks the starter. If not, the timing chain is likely broken. If the camshaft is turning or it sounds normal, move on.

If you don't have a spark on any of the wires, check the "ignition" fuse. If that's ok, pull the distributor cap off and have someone crank the starter and see if distributor rotor is turning. If it is, the likely the coil is bad. If the rotor isn't turning, either the distributor or oil pump has locked up (the oil pump and distributor run from the same gear on the crankshaft.

If you have a spark, then try the starting fluid. If it has a spark but won't fire with starting fluid, my next step would be to check the compression in each cylinder. If all the cylinders have low compression (<50psi), the timing chain is the likely culprit. If 2 adjacent cylinders are low, it could be a blown head gasket.

Check for spark, if it has spark, you might have bad gas, in this case I Would try some starting fluid, and again I recommend changing the fuel filter, it can tell you if there is trash in the fuel.

91 geo tracker died while driving cant get it started again

when you crank it, do you smell fuel? if you do, you're getting fuel so try replacing the distributer cap and even the plugs. if no gas smell, the fuel filter needs changing or the fuel pump is bad.

Turns over but wont start

first check fuel, then check to see if it is fireing at the spark plug. if it is fireing at plug, check to make sure it is getting fuel. ( should be able to smell fuel on the electrode end of spark pug). If it is getting fuel, and spark, you may try removeing all spark plugs, then shoot some oil into each spark plug hole. Replace plugs, and try to start. If it still wont try to start, may be out of time. Does it pop, backfire when you are cranking the engine?

Looking for location of fuel filter.. starting to lose a bit of power, and i start smelling a fuel smell when taking off. I think it might be the fuel filter

Fuel filter is located on the inside of the frame rail under the drives door. The other thing you may need to look at is the fuel pressure regulator, When the fuel pressure regulator goes bad, you do notice a lost of power and will have fuel leaking for the regulator it self. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get you truck running 100% again soon.

In all looses power while driving, turn off the key and back on and starts to run right again.

let me guess 305 and scottsdale?....could be silverado....

it sounds like your trucks fuel filter could be plugged.....when this happens you wont get enough fuel to the TBI and it wont have the necassary ponys in reserve.

"change the fuel filter" make shure that it is getting enough fuel/.....

if your ride does not get better.....it could be that your engine has lost compression.....due to worn cylinder walls and worn piston rings.

when this happens it starts eating the oil.....and will be powerless and smokey.......

try changing the fuel filter first..

....and you might try running some "RESTORE" engine treatment ......"BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE DESPERATE......IF YOU DONT FEEL CONFINDENT DONT DO IT"

hope this helps...

1992 plymouth grand voyager wont stay running

i can tell you its not the fuel pump.if you smell fuel then the pump is working right, you may have a weak crankshaft sensor though which would keep it from starting and running. but its definately not the fuel pump maybe you have water in your gas
